Missing lots? hi I have a question about installing/missing lots? I downloaded a number of lots and whenever I install them, some of them don't turn up in my game (under the lots) section. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks in advance
Could be the type of file package. Was it a Sims 2 Installable Package and did you install it with the Sims2Pack Clean Installer? It could also be the file you downloaded was incomplete. I found that uploading a package to the exchange sometimes didn't work right and my uploaded file was a lot smaller than it should have been. Not being a technical person I'm not sure of the reason. You will probably get a better answer in a while, after the technical people are awake and have had their coffee.
Well I installed it firstly with the Sims2pack clean installer, then I read somewhere about it being the problem of some lots missing, so I tried the installable package way, but both ways my lots didnt show up I hope someone could help me soon, but thanks for your help too
Jess, what EP's have you? Are you fully patched? http://thesims2.ea.com/update/ I ask this because I used to have similar problems but they've gone since I got NL
The current expansion Im at is NL unless you count the christmas one as an EP? I downloaded the patch provided at sims2.com but my not all my lots appear still :(
Oh ... that's one theory down the drain LOL I do remember that I found that I could never install more than one lot at a time. If I tried installing a batch only one turned up in the game. I never found out why, but was able to add another one each time I was between playing sessions ... more or less ... ... it's been a while since I tried to install more than one lot at once.
Gee, I tried the one by one method, whereby I installed one and got in the game, and it still didnt work Im about to go nuts does anyone have any more ideas? :(
I install lots by saving them in the downloads folder, unzipping them, and then unpackaging them with the Custom Content Manager. Is that what you're doing?
The official EA Games Custom Content Manager can be downloaded from here: thesims2.ea.com/ An alternative is use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer Each has its merits. They are designed to make installing and managing downloads easier. Neither is especially effective in my humble opinion if you have got a lot of downloaded content; the more downloads you have the more savvy you need to be to spot problem files before they cause serious problems. At the end of the day there is no substitute for keeping your own record of what each download is and what it does. The surest way to do this is to install downloads one at a time, manually and rename each package with a simple descriptive name that tells what it is and what it does. The game won't mind and Windows won't let you call two files by the same name. So if the black mini skirt doesn't show up in your game you can quickly and easily find it, delete it and go look for another one. Of course most downloads from most sites are pretty good and and the reputable sites have clearly lablled downloads that tell you what expansions packs and other items you need for each download to work.
Im using the Sims2Pack Clean Installer, and I just read at a website where I downloaded the houses that if the houses don't show up, I just select the house to install and un-select the custom items. And it worked! I think I should read the "help file" the websites offer in future Thanks to everyone for the help
Thanks for that info, Jess! I wish I'd thought of that myself ... it would have saved you a lot of bother. However your experience does add to the knowledge base and that's fabulous!
