Please Help!!! Hello everyone. My problem is that CD2 is ...scraped (I think it's properly spelled). After getting to 47% of install it's giving me an error message: cant copy TSData\Res\Sims3D\objects09.package. The file is corupted with 2 options: Retry and Cancel (setup). I have tried many times to reinstall, but in vain. I thought of manually unrar, all is good untill the same file on the second CD, so I unrared all files except the problematic one. I tried to open the game and it says: Important files missing. The game can not run. Please reinstall Sims 2. I tryed to reinstall the game after reformating due to a virus.I love the game, espacially with the 2 EPs (Univ. and NL), but cant work without sims 2 (obvious - so I didn't even try to install the expansions). Can anyone help me PLZ, to get the bad file or the second CD? Thanx in advance.
I'm sorry to hear that you have problems installing. It does sound like you have a damaged disc. We cannot help you with replacements (nor can we offer downloads as that would be illegal) However you mentioned trying to decompress files from the disc. That was adventurous for an install that only got to 47%. Did you, instead try to copy the whole set of discs? If not then try the EA Support site's advice:For the CD edition: Make sure to follow the steps below exactly as they read, or else the install may not work. Double-click My Computer. Right-click on the Local Disk C and choose Open. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder. Name the folder Disk Images it is important that the name has a space in it. Double-Click the new Disk Images folder to open it. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder. Name this folder Disk1. Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2 and so on until there are 4 'Disk' folders followed by a number 1 through 4. it is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number. Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it. Double-click My Computer to open it. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose Open. When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All. All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy. Open the Disk1 folder you created under C:\Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder. Repeat steps 9 through 14 for the remaining disks until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder. Once all the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives. Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation. To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation has completed. If that doesn't succeed then you will have to see about contacting Maxis for a replacement disc (there's a charge for that) ... either that or just buy the game again and never ever forget it. LESSON. Game CD's are not very expensive unless you have to buy them TWICE. CD's are not indestructible and have to be cared for. Always put them safely away when they are not in the drive. If you leave them laying around every Tom, Richard and Hal will be certain to visit when you're not around and they WILL play frisbee with it, they WILL use it for a drinks coaster, and they might EVEN attempt to fry cockroaches in its reflected glare if the sun happens to be out. Looking after a disc takes seconds, not looking after a disc, costs money and wastes huge amounts of time ... but you already know about that part, eh.
:( Hi. Thanx for all the advice, but I think my Cd is doomed. It's just a bit scratched on the side-but it's enough not to work. About leaving my CDs layng around for anyone to play with..I NEVER DID, DO OR WILL DO such things.I put them in my cd cases after installing, making images (for the play-CD); I didn't even touch my Sims2 CDs since last year (when I bought it, install, and make image). I think of buying a CD repair tool kit (as someone adviced me), as soon as i'll find one (cheap and good)-if this doesn't work than...don't know what else I can do. About buying again the game...don't think so (maybe I'll find someone from whom I can copy the cd-even if it's not original), about contacting Maxis...done that, I can't pay (no credit card -Visa or Mastercard, no PayPal account-it doesn't work here from where I am). It's all those **** viruses fault. If never had them, my system wouldn't be corrupted, it wouln'd be necessary to reformat my HDD and reinstall my games (at least RomeTW and NfsMW are working), but I really love(d) Sims, especially with Univ. and Nightlife expansions Thanx anyway for your help.Bye
I know we have an article somewhere in our forums in regards to getting CD replacements. I couldn't find it and I spent a couple hours combing through our database. My suggestion is call tech support and get them to direct you to the right direction
