Texture Display Problems [GFX Issue?] Recently my hard drive on my HP Compaq nc6000 crapped out, thus forcing me to buy a new 60GB Seagate hard drive. I reinstalled everything (updates, drivers, etc.) and to my behold when I reinstalled Sims 2 DVD Edition, University, & Nightlife, a texture error occured. This happens with not only wallpapers, but textures on booth seats & whatever else. Instead of having the texture being displayed properly, the file location shows up in place of the texture. Also, this error occurs in both community & residental lots, in both Downtown & University zones, & build and live mode. There are no updates for my ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Series gfx card and I have DirectX 9.0 WITH MORE than enough memory on my Windows Media Center Edition laptop. Before the hard drive crash, everything was fine. What am I missing or what is the issue? You can take a look at the DirectX Diagnostics TXT file here [ http://geocities.com/remixings/DxDiag.txt ] TXT File & Screen shot are also enclosed as attachments. Thanks in advance!
It would be helpful if you would uninstall the whole game again and start over with one phase at a time. Install The Sims 2 and see if the display is working OK before proceeding. It's possible that a crucial file was corrupted along the way somewhere. One idea to check out first is to make sure your graphic options are not just set too high ... that's a long shot cos I can't actually see that causing this sort of mayhem, but it's a quick and easy thing to check anyway before reinstalling.
Hmm. Reinstalled everything & it works fine now HOWEVER, I have to keep my Texture Details at a Low setting. Changing it to medium or high will cause the malfunctioning textures to pop up again. What's causing this problem? This issue didn't happen before.
I'm wondering if you installed the right drivers for Windows. Normally I wouldn't raise this up, but Windows Media Center Edition is far more picky about what sort of drivers it uses. Make sure you are using drivers approved for Windows Media Center and not just Windows XP in general.
