    "European Townhouse" stairs trick?

ok, I am re-creating varieties of the "European Townhouse" (from the houses bin in original "The Sims 2").

I want to use the connecting stairs LIKE THEY DO IN THAT HOUSE and only use 3 open squares above the stairs. (the bathroom works perfect they way they did it)

Problem is NOW it requires 4 open spaces above the stairs rather than just 3.

How can I create houses using the connecting stairs so that I only have to use 3 spaces above the stairs?

There has to be a way to do it, because THEY did it originally, and I don't think its fair that they no longer allow us to do that. (whoever 'they' are)

the only way i can personally think of is to make your bathroom bigger by a square each way, so the stairs fit in with the house, plus you get a bigger bathroom or whatever you want to make.....sorry if i didnt help

I actually heard that 'they' are watching us. Stay vigiliant, people!

The Maxis 'they' however - well, I heard they used a trick for that. Sorry. :(

Right I have managed to crack this one. I have been slaving away for weeks trying to ... wha? Oh right, you don't believe me. Well I found out by accident.

I was making a few changes over at chez Jarvis cos their family funds had built up enough to expand the basement and to add a stair case to get down there. The original entrance was via the garage door. Anyway when I built the house I used some OFB staging to turn the stairs from the ground floor to the upper floor around a corner ... so the upper section only ate a 3 square long hole in what was a smallish house. Needless to say I hadn't done a great deal of pre-planning concerning where the new stairs would go so I tried a few options and decided that the best scheme was two straight flights, side by side. I removed the walls that were in the way and dropped in the two flights of stairs. The one down into the cellar needed a 4 square slot but I was surprised that the ground to upper floor stairs just dropped straight in to a 3 square slot. At first I couldn't see what had happened as doors were obscuring the view ... I was thinking maybe a floor tile had been deleted. But wait!

The floor tile that should have stopped the stairs going was a reserved tile for the bathroom door. Ooh!

Actually it's not a full solution because walls still can't be built across that line and I didn't therefore think it worth the effort of finding out if the door worked (could be used).

I had moveobjects on as is usual when I am remodelling an occupied house ... but frankly that oughtn't to have made any difference.

    Watch this space ;)
