Jumping through hoops for the perfect wedding... Gregory and his fiance Mia have graduated from college. Mia is fortune and wanted to marry a rich sim. Luckily, Gregory is very rich. Or, his parents are, and since he moved back home, he is also rich now. So Mia could be one of my few sims ever to fulfill this want, but it doesn't work if Mia moves in before the wedding. And, I also needed to plan the wedding outfits so they don't get married in just random formalwear. So, I stuck Mia in her sister's house to sit until the wedding. I started planning the wedding at Gregory's. I sent him downtown to buy the wedding clothes, both his and Mia's. I thought I could teleport Mia over, use the mind control mirror to make her selectable, and have her change into the wedding dress before the wedding, but she still wouldn't technically be a resident so the want would be fulfilled. Well, it didn't work. The clothing options available to her at the dresser were the options she had at her sister's house, not the clothes that Gregory had bought her. I really really didn't want to exit the lot, load her sister's house, send Mia downtown to buy a wedding dress, set it as her formal wear, and then load Gregory's house again. I was really tired! I wanted to have the wedding so I could go to bed. So I asked Mia to move in. She did. I then set her formalwear as the wedding gown and moved her right back out. I put her in an empty house to get ready for her wedding. I did have to exit Gregory's house and load hers, but it saved a trip downtown to buy a dress, since the dress was already assigned as her formal wear. I put on her dress, hair, veil, makeup and flowers. Then I went back to Gregory's house to have the freakin wedding. The bride showed up all perfect and ready to get married. "Marry a Rich Sim" was fulfilled. The bridal couple looked perfect, but it was not the perfect wedding because all the guests were idiots. This is nothing new, I know, but after all this effort, it annoyed me. I had locked the doors to keep everyone in the yard, and refrained from putting out food until after the ceremony. Still, most of the guests did not sit down to watch the wedding. They milled around the yard. They had pillow fights. They punched each other's arms and told each other jokes. The mother of the bride slapped the girlfriend of the father of the groom for kissing him, because one time in college, she was cheered up by said girlfriend and developed a crush on her. I guess the crush never went away although they have lived separately ever since (they are all elders now). And the father of the bride came to the wedding with "electrocution hair". (He's never been electrocuted.) Plus I forgot to take out the pool ladders and diving board, so there were people walking around the reception with swimsuits on. It was a roof-raiser. Thank goodness it's over!!!! Moral: "Marry a Rich Sim" is a royal pain if you care at all what your bride wears to get married in.
LOL Mango, I wish I'd been invited to that party. It sounds more fun than any wedding I've ever attended.
Heh. Electrocution hair. You can't hear me but I'm laughing. My sims always live together first. Much simpler that way.
I didn't know that want would not be fulfilled if they lived together first. I mean even if she considers some of that money to be hers she's still marrying him and he's still rich. Good to know though because I have one guy in my neighborhood that keeps rolling that want. Now though the only rich folk I've got are already happily married. Ruth
I didn't consider that, but I would think if they're not married when they move in that it should still count. Has anyone else tried this?
Yes, please, someone else try it and see! I've tried it before and it wasn't fulfilled, but that was a way long time ago with just the base game or Uni. Maybe something has changed since then to allow them to live together first and still fulfill the want. Edited to add: You can still test this without your sim actually having the want to marry a rich sim. If they do, they still get the memory of having done so and the twirly symbol above their head. I'm thinking back now to my last several weddings, where the fiance moved in first, and I don't remember seeing the twirly symbol.
OK, so I figured this out. If you want your sim to get credit for marrying a rich sim, they need to invite them over but NOT invite them to move in. They must already be engaged, or get engaged then. You need a wedding arch. Have your sim click on the arch and choose Get Married or Join Union. Fiancee will join them, bada bing bada boom, if the fiancee's got dough your sim's want is fulfilled. However, they're stuck with your sim's last name so you need to weigh that. If you want them to have the other sim's last name and the other sim is a controllable sim, you can have them do all of the above on their lot and I believe the sim who wants to marry rich will still get their want fulfilled. Depends on which home you want them to live in, too. If you invite them to move in first you don't get the want fulfilled. Hope that clears this up.
If hackers weren't all evaporating like rain puddles on a Cairo street and if MATY didn't keep immolating itself (is that semi-oxymoronic? It feel it might be. Can one immolate a 3rd party? Ooh looks like one may ) Where was I? Oh yes Pescado has (had?) a conventional marriage hack that simply set the male's name as the family name. Yesterday Inge imploded. Today Pescado has expired. Me? I suspect they are ensconced beneath a false lake set in the caldera of slightly extinct volcano where they are plotting the overthrow of the old world order with lots of shiny but deadly devices cunningly contrived to lull the plebs into a flase sense of security ... now that they have us all where they want us: entirely dependant upon their nifty hacks and gizmos for our simmery satisfaction and gaming goodness; goodness what a long sentence this is ... it's almost a paragraph and might yet become a novel; I have way too much time on my hands ....
You and me both, darlin. I'm supposed to be working and can't get motivated. Could it be because it's Friday morning? I still haven't done my taxes. I figured them out, just have to fill in the stupid forms neatly, make copies and send them out. Do you have to jump through these hoops in England? It's such a drag ... Basically, this year we're giving our federal refund to the state. So we came out just about even. That's good news, I guess, better than owing. Just wish they'd make it easier. Sorry. Waaaaaay off topic I know.
Oh taxes are a pain. Luckily over here paying txes is optional ... ooh if only ... The only people who have to submit tax forms every year are mostly the folks who run their own businesses. Income taxes are taken out of salaries by the employer and the Revenue even manages to adjust our personal rates from year to year to make up for over and underpayments. The self-employed can do their own self-assessment online, though whether this is a good thing or a bad thing I 've no idea. Back in the day I needed an accountant to unravel my accounts What was the topic ... oh ... we used to have a rash of weddings in the run up to April 5th cos there was a married couple's tax allowance that was payable in full even if you only married for one day of the tax year. The last week in March was very hectic until some darn 1970's crusty socialist chancellor of the royal purse put a stop to it. Pesky reds! They'll take ya last sou without so much as a 'have a nice day'! Now we're off topic Fancy meeting up in another thread for a number jumbling jamboree ... 449!
Thanks for testing that out SBW. I haven't had any weddings since the above mentioned annoying roof-raiser.
You're welcome. Audrey married Irfan Platz, my resident "Mr. Big." I wanted them to have his name, not hers, so she didn't get the "marry rich guy" want fulfilled, but she was already pretty happy. I just think a name like Audrey Platz is her just desserts after the way she treated poor old Jack. And besides, she gets to live in a really nice house so what's she got to complain about, I'd like to know ... Let's just say those two are perfectly suited. A match made in, well, not heaven.
Eeish. ur right. We've lost a lot of people this week, first heleane, then Inge...but now Pescado? Eeish.
