    downloading maxis stuff

i dont understand how to get the downloads from the sims official website to the game.. specifically being, the maxis made objects. i download it, save it to my desktop then double click to install it into the game and i do that.. and it says its been successfully installed. but now when i play the game, the object is no where to be found. also, i tried saving it on

    C:\Documents and Settings\~username~\
    My Documents\ EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads

and installing from there.. there seems to be new files in that folder now, but its still not appearing on the game. how is everyone getting these objects?

There are some downloads that are simply for TS2, but others require that you have an expansion pack before they will show up in your game. The download will indicate if you need nightlife, Open for Business, summerfun pack or whatever it's called. If an object was desgned for nightlife and you don't have that expansion, it won't show. So make sure what requirements are necessary.
I looks to me like you are installing the downloads to the correct folder.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Only to ask what objects she has downloaded and then we can suggest where to look for them ... I have had many an embarrassed chuckle after spending ten minutes looking for a download only to find it it hiding behind a bush

actually, i have all the epansions leading up to OFB, and yes i do have that.. the ones i downloaded off maxis are the ones that only require the original sims 2. plus, i downloaded the computer file and when i play the game, it should be under electronics right? well its not there and i have tried looking elsewhere and they are not anywhere.

have you tried a search on your computer for the file? Sometimes I mistakenly download to a wrong file... worst senario, try downloading again.

    Hmmm.

What is your operating system? Windows XP Home, XP Professional? We need the exact detail.

2nd question. Are you the only one using the computer? Are you logged in as administrator? (There's an outside chance that Windows is installing your downloads in the wrong place .... not very likely to be honest ... but when I get stuck I start by ruling out every possible cause I can think of. Nothing is too silly ... especially when sensible ideas are hard to come by

i run windows xp home. its really hard to believe it is my system bc i am running the game perfectly fine. with no lag. the only other download i have in the downloads file is a censor download. i dont know if this makes a difference though

and yes i am the only one using this comp.. under my own username. theres a file in my downloads file that wasnt there before. i am assuming it is the one of the objects i installed. if it is there, then why am i not seeing it in the game. i looked everywhere. its the "runs with scissors playset" object on thesims2.com for those of you who were wondering

Ooh don't mention the rude hack  ;) ... (it's not likely to be causing trouble BTW)

Runs With Scissors should be in the miscellaneous bits and pieces part of the buy catalog the (...) button. Within that category its the unclassified section tho' I'm beggared if I can remember what that button looks like ... some sort of tri-lobar shape .... anyway it's the bottom, left nad button

    Hope you find it ;)
