need help moving i have a problem with one of my sims not being able to move out of his house. there are more than one sim living there, and i want to have just one move out. everytime i click on the computer or newspaper to have him find his own place. the box appears in the upper left and then disappears right away. from what i can see. there is nothing wrong with anyone. the game is running like it should. no problems at all elsewhere. i have been trying for days now, and at different times of the day and no luck. anyone have an idea what is going on? and this isn't the first person i've tried to move out. i have moved many sims out of a house with good luck. ???? sorry, one more question. when i take a picture with the vintage camera. how do i get it in the game. i found it in the storybook folder, so i know the picture was taken. now what do i do??
There's probably something stuck where it shoudln't be. This is a bug. You can try messing with the testingcheats and make matters worse or download Pescado's Lot Debugger Unzip(Extract -- right click it and choose Extract Files) into a folder called: Downloads in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\ If the folder called Downloads doesn't exist create it by using the New Folder button and making sure the name is correctly spelled with a capital D and an s on the end and all the other letters in the right order Once installed you will have a new object you can buy for your sims house ... it's in the miscellaneous section (where the wardrobes and baby stuff is) ... look in the miscellaneous section there for a Yellow box. Put the box in the sims house and click it and play around with the options. Note the menu choices vary according to what problems it detects and some options warn you that trouble may follow and that selecting OK is up to you. Like I said it's risky. The easiest option is to move out the whole family, bulldoze the house and start them over in a new home. If you are trying to play without cheating then it's generally agreed that it's OK to use the money cheats to make up for any losses that might occur by doing this ...
thanks for the quick response. but now my girlfriend has more problems. i came over to tell her what you wrote. now it seems like she has more than one house that is like this. let me fill you in alittle. she has over 140 sims in over 30 houses. she wanted to see if this problem was occuring anywhere else. and it was. she told me she tried like 8-10 houses and it was about 50/50. some could move out and some couldn't. i forgot the name of this site so i couldn't post last night and posted on thesims2.com for her. someone mentioned it might be a dead elder bug. they wanted to know if any of the houses that sims couldn't move out of were a house that an elder had died in. does this help us any? have you heard of this bug? if it is, is there a fix? this is a 4 year project for her and she doesn't want to lose any of her peeps.
How interesting. I didn't know it was a "dead elder" bug. It happened to me once. The only way I could get anyone out of the house (without the "dead elder" coming with them) was to have someone else in the neighborhood invite one of the household members to move in with them. That household member would then bring along with them everyone in the house except the "dead elder," who, sure enough, showed up as a family member in the list of people available to move out, although he was long dead. When this ghost who was not a ghost (because the tombstone was long deleted) was the only one left in the house I couldn't even bulldoze the house until I'd moved the invisible dead elder into the sim bin where he resides to this very day. He was very bad to have in any house because it corrupted the house in many ways. In sum, try getting someone else in the neighborhood who has no dead elders to invite your sims to move in with them.
I should delete my last post because you found the solution while I was writing the novel. However, my solution might be amusing to someone else who has the dead elder bug.
I think this was a rare sort of pre-patch problem. It's not one I am au fait with and there's not much about it anywhere. I tend to assume folks have done the basics like patching the game before looking for help ... time to rewrite the FAQs
actually you are close to what we did. only we brought the dead elder with us leaving someone at the house. then we moved the 2 to a open lot. and then moved back leaving the dead elder at the open lot. now she has a retirement home for the elderly and a retirement home for the dead elders. with her it was an easy move. she has 4 generations of sims, over 140 sims, and 37 households, so most everyone all knows each other thru friendships. but here is the funny part. i play just 1 person over there. he just made a servo. i logged out to let her do these moves. while she was doing the moves, she got visiters for just moving in. you know the first 3. well, one of them was my servo i made. it was very funny. So i hope you understand what she did mirelly. if you want to add this to the FAQ.
