I'm Lost... So, did you ever really answer the question? I have the exact same laptop, exept it has 512 MB of RAM. my problem is simular but not the same. I get through the entire first disk, pop in the second and press ok. It gets to 49% and I get a transfer error. I followed all of the suggestions from EA for this problem and it continues to happen so I am stuck, I really, REALLY want to play this game and this is my only computer. I'm only 14 so I don't have the money to go buy another one, AGAIN. I bought this one because you told me my old one was not compatible with directx 9.0
Look! Sweetheart, no-one here told you to buy a new computer. No-one would have told you to buy any sort of laptop with the expectation that it would run The Sims 2. Any such advice would be irresponsible. I do remember telling you that the graphics could not be upgraded on a laptop and it appears that you then went out and bought another one. I even replied to that post and told you that the model you had bought was already the subject of another member's problem. You did not reply. You certainly have never -- to my knowledge -- asked for advice concerning the sort of computer you should buy. If you took any statement that was made by anyone who has tried to help you as advice that amounted to: "buy a flashy new computer" (with the subtext being: any sort will do so long as it is new) then you have mislead yourself. Furthermore the machine you bought was a Dell ... and as far I am aware they only sell online -- at least in the UK, where I live, they do -- so to buy I judge that you would have needed access to a credit or debit card. If you have your own, well done! Lucky you. If not then you need to eat humble pie and admit to the card-holder that you insisted on a very unwise purchase (but that it will come in handy for schoolwork) ... but pwetty pwease you now want a much better and more expensive machine so you can play The Sims 2. If you do decide you are going to aim for yet another new computer then I strongly counsel you to seek serious advice concerning the specifications of the new machine. This isn't the time to give that advice ... mostly because I doubt you will even give me the courtesy of a reply until the next holiday when you may again try to install the game on your slinky Dell box of bits and, failing miserably, come here to accuse us of causing all your trouble. I am sorry for your problems but you cannot make a game run on a computer that is unsuitable for the needs of the game's requirements.
Nick: The most anyone implied about purchasing anything was me and in this post, I implied a video card, not a computer. No where in my post did it say anything about purchasing a computer. No one held a gun to your head and told you to buy a computer.
And this morning I rise refreshed from a well-earned sleep to find that Nick has started a new thread about custom avatars ... the answer to which is easily found by using the forum search facility. Some people don't want to be helped ....
Actually I happened to split that off into Site Feedback as it was totally random spot in another thread.
Well you know how I like to put my foot in it, Josh If I ever need to have a leg amputated I won't need to buy any more shoes ... I'd be able to just use my gob.
don't think that I'm blaming you all....I'm Not. My dad actually told me to buy a new computer because he didn't want me playing the game on his computer...BTW- a few days ago I finally found success in installing the game(and it works), but please don't think that I was upset or anything. I actually was posting that message onto another thread. Lord knows how it got here...Also, I looked all over to find something about the custom avatar thing before asking. I really like this site. In-fact I'd like to help out sometimes by answering other peoples questions. Tonight I was wondering what would happen if I typed my screen name into google and this thread came up... I had no Idea that anyone had replied to it. Mirelly, I can't stress to you enough how sorry I am. I really didn'y expect for you to take that post the way you did and I sincerely apologize. P.S. Here you can buy Dells at the store...I think. Josh, Correct me if I'm wrong IDK. I think you can get them at Best Buy, i got mine on E-bay Also, Mirelly, in yur signature it says don't ask questions by 'PM'. what does that stand for?
LOL Nick. I wasn't mad at you. I was worried that you had misunderstood our advice and gone away doen something expensively silly. *thinks* Hmm, maybe I should change my signature again
OK thats good Good Idea - I didn't know what PM was and the change you made to it definitely helped - especially for the users of the weak minded. It's almost sad when I see something about someone not knowing what an optical drive is... Not that this pertains to anything in this thread but what is the forum 'program' or whatever that you all use? I've been looking for a forum to put on my site but I can't find one...Thanks I thought you were mad because of the way you responded - saying I wouldn't respond until the next holiday for example...IDK I read @ 2:00 in the morning I was probably delirious
I just tend be a little sarcastic sometimes ... it's why I use the icon so much ... that and the points of ellipsis ... This forum runs on the vBulletin script, which requires a licensing fee for use, but if you have access to to PHP and MySQL database then you could try the excellent and popular (open source ?) ... it's free anyway ... SMF script
ok..I'll try it. Thanks. I wasn't expecting anything to be free Also by a PHP and MySQL, you mean... Sorry for all the Idiot questions I seem to be asking P.S. my description has been changing a lot lately: Sqatter,Caller,Etc. is that a good thing? P.S.S. at this point if you want to you can probably close most of the threads that I started about me and my problems because they are resolved and it woudn't make sense for people to ramble on and on, on those threads
PHP -> www.php.net MySQL -> www.mysql.com And the descriptions are part of your user rank. They are suppose to change.
