laptops I have a decent desktop that does what I need it to but I want a portable compter to play the sims 2 on. I would like the laptop to play it comfortable. I have been trying to research it but its all greek to me. Is there one that is not terribly expensive that would do the job? All help would be appreciated. Cajuncayenne
What's your budget? Terribly expensive is a bit vague as to a student, it could mean 500.00, but to an adult, maybe 1500.00 isn't too expensive.
My advice would be don't even go there. laptops are always terribly expensive poor relations of desktops when it comes to gaming performances. And unless you are happy to play for just an hour or so before having to quit you need access to a power point so a lap top is not even that portable. For gaming on the go the handheld game's console is a much neater solution. Notebook computers are excellent business tools but rather poor toys ... IMO
laptops I would like to spend about a 1000 maybe little more no more then 1300. I want it to be portable in my house. I could still plug it in just don't want to be stuck in my bedroom all the time. Thanks, Cajuncayenne
I use a laptop for my Sims. Or rather, I did. It's not a great experience really - I've been to my firends house when she was playing on a desktop, and it was so much better. Everybody I know uses a desktop, and it's not really recommended that you use a laptop. I'd def not do it again. I'm looking into buying a desktop now.
I'd just like to post my opinion: First of all, yes, most Laptops can't handle modern games as i.e. the same price as a Desktop can. However, if you can afford a heavy budget, there are Laptops out there that can be close and even better then your normal day Desktop.
I use both a desktop and a laptop, over all the laptop isn't that bad as long as you expect it to have a little more drag because the graphics card is more than likely inferior to the desktops. In my case, however, the graphics card on my desktop is five years old, so I don't notice much of a difference between my five year old desktop and my 8 month old laptop. BTW-- I'm looking to replace the graphics card in my desktop, anyone have any suggestions?
My suggestion is, don't buy top of the line. You'll pay top of the line prices for something that will be "old news" the next day. Get something a few notches below. Read the consumer reports on them. A lot of sites, like Tom's Hardware, rate the hardware for you. The rate of return on the top card might be only slightly higher than that for a card you can actually afford. I have an AMD board with a 6600 Geforce Video Card. When I bought it 6800 was "top of the line," a week later it was 7000. Now it's something like 7800. You can't keep up with the Joneses. Look at your budget and review what's out there. "Good enough" works just fine for me.
I have a last-season model laptop, and I hate to say it, but... I have uninstalled The Sims from my desktop computer and I'm using my laptop for Simming. It's funny because I bought the thing for schoolwork...yeah right.
I run The Sims 2 with no problems on my laptop, a VERY odd time it will crash but that also happens with desktops. Desktops do generally perform better but my laptop works a dream, It's a DELL LATITUDE D620, it has 2 Duo procossers which basically means it runs twice as good as any other basic laptop. I would recommend purchasing it. It cost me €1200 I guess that's about $1350 Hope this helps!!
