Screwed with Neighborhoods First off, I use a Dell Dimension 3000, and I've had Sims 2 forever upon forever. However, recently I got rid of Neighborhoods 2 and 3 on the basis they were taking up waaaay too much space (this was my first mistake). I then threw in some new hair colors, which may be the culprit, but I don't know what they are and I'm afraid to crash all my sims' hair. I work on a 2-user computer and have copied in the neighborhoods from the 2nd user. However, it still tells me to insert the CD-Rom into the drive... Its really annoying me.
Deleting the Maxis neighborhoods causes no problems with the game in any way. I don't even bother to keep them in my game at all. In fact, I have custom neighborhoods which have taken the numbers of N001 (my "movie set" neighborhoods) and N002 (my "practice" neighborhood where I try out downloaded houses.) The one I play is N007, which is a completely custom neighborhood too. So, your problem does not stem from deleting/removing your N002 or N003 neighborhoods. I remember seeing your problem in another post. You might want to do a search of the website to see if you can find the same problem being explained in another thread.
I'm confused at what the problem acctually is. what do you mean it tells you to insert disk 1? I don't understand why there is a problem with inserting disk 1
The game comes with 2 discs which are required for installation. But Disc one needs to be in the drive at all times while you are booting up the game and playing. (And asking how to avoid needing the disc in the drive is considered "software piracy" and not something we can help with. The game is intentionally built to require the disc.) There are times when it doesn't want to read your disc #1, but most of the times it's because you put the wrong EP's disc in or you used the wrong # of disc. If your computer has a problem, sometimes it's because something was corrupted in your game. That can happen because of a global hack, but most commonly it seems to just happen (as it can also happen to people who use no downloads at all, not even non-global hacks, let alone global hacks.) When that happens, the game may need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled. (Check a search of this website for instructions on how to do that and still save your favorite neighborhoods and downloads.)
I knew that part and in reading the question I thought it was a pirated game but the 3rd paragraph of your response does help me to understand. What you're saying is, even when the disk is in, it still says "please insert disk 1". well, to that I would do as kat said and reinstall but first you should download the latest CD patch from EA - http://thesims2.ea.com/update/?pid=Help_patches sorry for the confusion - I like to help people on these forums, I have no Idea why, it just seems like my calling. Whenever I give people this advice it makes me feel good, but I don't want to give bad advice so I ask questions first.
Okay, all it took was a restart and that was fine. My new problem is that everytime I quit the game, the computer crashes. It freezes in a black screen and the Sims 2 cursor and all I can do is move the cursor but not exit.
if you wait long enough it will probably close, depending on how much RAM you have it could be taking up a lot of it and just being slow. You can never have too much RAM, with this problem my guess tell me if I'm right, is that you have 256 MB of RAM
