    Can't move an object

There's a strange object sitting in my sims front yard. It looks like the large vase sculpture without the handles and its all one solid color, like a silhouette. Its sitting on the intersection of four squares. I can't move/delete it. I've tried "moveobjecs on"; can't pick it up. I've tried placing the vase sculpture over it but the vase won't go in the intersection, in fact, nothing will go in any of the surrounding squares.

The thing isn't hurting anything, I'd just like to clean it up.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ooh mystery ... I'd sure like to see it :) Can you grab a picture of it and post it here and I'll try and think of a way to nuke it.

If you need advice on taking and posting pics there's coverage in the FAQs (see in my signature)

    Photo of problem

Here is a snapshot of the object, taken in Buy mode. On closer inspection I see that the color is not uniform, but has some shading. Also, as I was taking this, a sim walked right through it.

LOL Thank you. I have no idea what that is. Is there any description of it when you try to move it/pick it up?

I'll do some research first before advising you. I wouldn't want to help you destroy it if doing so would cause further problems.

OK, I still don't really know what it is. Do you have Nightlife or Open For Business? There is a possibility that it's an item from another lot (or a neighborhood decoration) that has gotten trapped in the lot view. I've had the same sort of thing before but not in the same way and the items were always outside the lot boundary (eg across the street) and were also deletable with moveobjects ... however it doesn't appear to be anything remotely significant so destroying it with a Pescado-made hack should be quite safe.

Download Pescado's Stuck Object Remover (from his website MATY)

Unzip the file to the folder in My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2 > Downloads (if the folder called Downloads doesn't exist, make one and be sure to name it correctly: Downloads)

The stuck object remover is an object you buy in "Buy Mode" it's in the Miscellaneous section of the Miscellaneous section. It is invisible itself so it has no picture. It costs $1. Plop it down on one the squares where the urn is and you will see the urn disappear with a message telling you that 1 or more items have been "burninated"

    Nope

Thanks for the research and link. I downloaded the Object Remover and tried it. Unsuccessful! The object is still there. (FYI the Object Remover seems to make the square on which it is used unusable for anything else. I place a trash can on a square I had used the tool on and the can was "buninated" next time I loaded that lot.)

Following your line of thinking, I tried changing the terrain around the object. No help! I tried building a Connecting Stair around it. No help! In neighborhood view, I tried to grab it as a decoration. Again, no help!

I think part of the problem is that it is sitting half on the lot and half in the out-of-bounds area.

Anything else I might try? It's really great having someone to bounce ideas around with.

    Oh my bad! :(

Maybe try using 4 stuck object removers one for each square?

Have you got any custom content? If you're not sure ... My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\ Downloads. Drag it out to the desktop then reload the game. If you still have the darn urny eyesore thing then it's not a custom piece :p

Final idea ... try enabling debug mode

    boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true

and see what (if any) options come up by gshift-clicking the offending item ... I'm thinking that if nothing else you may be able to make it invisible  seeing as how you mentioned that sims can walk through it.

Afterthought ... another look at your pic leads me to think this is an odd sort of placeholder for a visiting sim who is either no longer present or who is stuck in some sort of bizarre pixellated digital limbo. Either way it's obviously not common ... no sensible suggestions have been forthcoming as to what it is or where it came from ... or how it got there

Anyway ... plan B calls for Pescado's Lotdebugger. (same principle as the object remover but different ... buy and click on it for options ... I suggest you start with "Clear Offworld Loiterers" if available ... the options it presents depends on the situation and the problems present ... he's a clever chap is J.M. Pescado ... for a fish :p)

I would advise against using the Force Errors option as it is apt to break your game if it doesn't fix it (the same goes for the same option in debug mode!)

    We Got It!

Thanks again for the research and the link. I tried the Lot Debugger, but that didn't seem to help.

Then, as I was looking at the object from different angles, I noticed that if I zoomed out and looked at the object from the perspective of the lot across the street, the thing disappeared. So I bulldozed the neighboring lot (which I had downloaded sometime ago) and presto! No more urn.:D

Thanks for your help. I never would have thought the problem could be coming from another lot, if you hadn't said something about it.
