Heatwave in the UK - *begs for air con*

Argh! It's unbearable! We are just not used to temps like we have had recently!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5189734.stm

Yesterday was awful - the house was like a sauna, and there was no escape from it. I have never had sweats like this, it's really bad, and I'm always taking cool baths to cool down, but then of course you can't get dry. The neighbours were doing a BBQ (or let's just say grilling burgers - do it in the kitchen for flip's sake! ) and so I had to close all the windows as the fuel fumes were quite strong. So, the house was like sitting in a hot car with no air. Gah!

*runs around screaming for coldness and rain*

    Me + heat = pmsing-type rage.

I guess we are just not used to these temps in the UK. Of course, if we had air con it would make things a whole lot better, but as our weather is mostly cloud and rain, no real need for it. Except for days like these. Hot, hot, hot! Muggy, sticky, hotness. Yuckers!

    Sorry, rant over. :D

Visit Melbourne Hugz, our top temp today was 14C. I'm like you though, not a fan of hot weather at all! I can't stand the summer months.

Having a heat wave here in Minnesota as well - Thought I was going to melt on Sunday as temps hit close to 100 farenheit, and the dew point was well into the 70s!

No - NOT a fan of hot weather - I would much rather be cold! After all, you can always put on another sweater, but when it's HOT, there's only so much you can take OFF!

Ah yeah, the great British BBQ where the food would best marinated in a mixture of methylated spirit and diesel oil before rolling the meat in a crispy coating of ash and cinders ... serve as is, tasting of petroleum products, cold and raw in the middle and inedible on the outside. What is about a naked flame, a big pair of tongs and comedy apron that makes men suddenly think they can cook ... oh yeah, I just remembered ... it's the beer. Funny how they always manage to have the beer serving arrangements organised to perfection ... a priority I am content with, I have to admit.

It's pretty toasty here in Brum and although I hate the heat too, I am enjoying this spell because I have nothing urgent to do, I can stay in the shade and the nearby factory that seems to do a lot open air wood-sawing seems very quiet today.

The only thing that is really driving me nuts is the Pratt & Whitney-esque volume from the combined fannage in my puter ... I turned off the power last night for the first time this year ... just to give the solder a chance to soldify ... :p

Yep. It was actually hotter here than in Miami, FL. Of course, that was followed by a lot of rain, I think. Either that, or the rain came before the heat wave. I can't remember which.

Heat waves everywhere. We're having one here in Baltimore, too. So I sympathize with all of you. :melting:

I copied, rather than linked, the post below from the local WBAL channel web page (since it will probably change frequently anyhow) --

    Heat Advisory:

Issued at: 10:13 AM EDT 7/18/06, expires at: 6:15 PM EDT 7/18/06

heat advisory remains in effect until 8 pm edt this evening
A hot and humid airmass will remain in place across the region today. It will be even more humid this afternoon and evening compared to Monday, and just as hot. With high temperatures of near 100 degrees, combined with high humidity, expect afternoon heat index values to range between 105 to 109 degrees.
The most important thing to remember when the weather turns hot is to drink plenty of fluids. Water is your best choice as it prevents dehydration. If you are working or exercising outside and feel dizzy or are getting muscle cramps, stop immediately and seek medical help. The elderly and young are most susceptible to heat related injuries, check on them often. Never leave pets unattended in automobiles - temperatures can soar to 130 degrees in a matter of minutes.

(Enough messing around, Lynet. Back to work!)

Which reminds me...Sunday, we were running a bunch of errands, and had stopped at Petco to pick up cat necessities. My mom (who is visiting from Oklahoma) did not want to come in, so I asked her if she wanted me to roll down the window for her before I left. (The windows are electric, so once the car was off, she'd have been unable to roll them down.) Being the Depression Baby that she is, and not wanting to be a bother, she said No. I asked if she was sure, but she still said no...

So in we went - got the litter - got the cat food aand were just picking up the cat treats before checking out when an announcement came over the loudspeaker asking for ME (By NAME) to come to Check-Out #1!!

WELL, I figured Mom had gotten tired of waiting, and had come in, but couldn't find us or something...But I didn't see her when I walked to the font of the store. So I went to the check out and told them who I was, and the girl said,

"Apparently, you have an elderly woman locked in your car!"

Sure enough, when I headed out to the parking lot, there she was, peering out the back seat window, looking concerned, yet a bit sheepish! Apparently, the car we were using had Childproof locks in the back, and she had been unable to open the door, and had panicked a bit!

She then managed to catch the attention of some passer-by, who I'm sure thought she was being kidnapped, and told him to have me paged!

I felt TERRIBLE! I could picture the headlines:

MINNESOTA WOMAN CALLOUSLY SHOPS FOR CAT TOYS WHILE MOTHER NEARLY EXPIRES IN CAR!!!

So let this be a lesson - It's not just small children and pets!

I shouldn't laugh, really ... but that was so funny, Sacha. So typical of mums to wish to avoid being a nuisance and end up in trouble some how anyway. My mum's just the same. Glad it ended well though and also that you were spared the embarrassment of making headlines ;)

    jupitershana Kitty Fanatic!

*attempts not to snicker but ends up in a rolling laugh* I can't help it either, that was just too funny of a story, especially with your headline! Your poor mother!
