In University, why is time standing still?

I have a house with two girls in it and I got done with decorating their house, with mostly stuff I have downloaded, and now they are frozen. Everything works fine, no lag, its just time will not move. All my other houses are fine, except this one. Any ideas?

It's probable then that one of the items you downloaded is a bad hack. If you have Nightlife or Open For Business you can (and should) review the list of hacks and hacked objects tthat is given by the game immediately after loading. Checking through the list should help you identify what is giving trouble.

If you don't have NL/OFB then you'll need another program to review the downloads (eg The Sims 2 Content Manager Tool from the official site. Some players, me included, think that The Sims 2 Clean Installer from MTS2 is a better option.) The official tool is 3.5 MB but is regarded as a poor performer being very slow to load, the MTS2 tool is a tiny download but it also requires an additional 22MB file from Microsoft  (the links are all the site I have given). Choice is yours. ;)

Once you can identify the items remove them from your Downloads folder.

When you load up the house again whatever you removed will now be missing but time should move again.

I have nightlife, so are you talking about the list that comes up and says enable or disable? What am I looking for to tell me that a certain object is bad?

Oh ... you'll have to scroll through and read every one of the things. :(

There's no guarantee you'll find the thing, though. In theory the item should give itself away by its name (I assume you have a fair idea of the downloaded items in the problem house?) Basically problematic objects cause the problems they do by overriding a game element. So you want to be looking out for the word "overrides" ... except you'll see it in every objects error ... probably ... since all the game does is to check to see if a package contains an override of the global and semi-global variables.

Seriously look out for a description that matches the items you put in the house.

Do you have many downloads? A really quick solution is to just put all downloads in the recycle bin and start over using trusted sources.

There is an easier way to check very large numbers of downloads (easier means intensive not necessarily quicker) ... but it involves dozens of loading and unloadings of the game.

I will look into it, although I would be surprised since all ( or maybe 99%) of the downloads are from Around the Sims. One idea I have is that I got a laptop from there and I had one of my girls RIGHT AWAY declare her major on it. Do downloaded computers support the college options? Maybe it feaked because of that?

Yes. Be very very wary about downloading objects that have important interactions because they almost certainly will not work properly. Things like phones and computers are prime examples. Fridges and stoves are not so bad so long as they actually work at all .... but I have plenty of stoves that won't make some dishes and fridges that don't seem to contain some ingredients and beds that maids never attempt to make up ... these aren't game breaking but that downloaded laptop needs to go in the trash ASAP

Hmmm... I thought I had it for a sec because when I went into my downloads I noticed that I had the Uni version of the laptop as well as the OFB version (I don't have OFB). I deleted that one, it didn't work, so I got rid of both. Still does not work.

So now I want to do a little process of elimination. If I am in the game and I start deleting items, should it work once I have deleted the corrupt item, or do I need to delete from my downloads all together for it to start working?

First you'd need to remove the file from downloads. Second you may need to demolish the house and build a new one.

Before you do that, try the Pescado NL lot debugger (OFB version--probably the same file) from MATY. Install it in downloads and buy the yellow box from Miscellaneous > miscellaneous in buy catalog. Put in the house and click it to find debugging options. Might work, might not ... not all problems are fixable. Don't save the game if it does something you're not sure about.

Pescado's hacks are safe when used properly (ie not mixed with others from another website)

    Good ideas...

Okay, I will try that. Though first I will just try getting rid of the house. I might have really scewed it up with having the OFB verision, without having OFB. If that does not work I will try that program. Thanks for the tip and I will let you know what happens.

before you go any further, this happened to me a few weeks ago and all i did was go into buy mode, delete an object from the house, go back to live mode, see if time started running again, if it didnt, go back to buy mode and delete the next thing etc until you found the bugged object.. after deleting about 6 or 7 objects from the house i deleted a little bookcase (downloaded item) went back to live mode and time started running again! i then deleted that custom content off of my pc and have never had the problem since.
    try it!

Thanks! That was kind of my question, I wanted to know if I could just delete it from the house and it would start working or if I actully had to delete from the my downloads folder before it would start up.
