Corrupted CD\DVD-RW Drive, from Sims 2

Okay, A couple months ago, I bought the Sims 2 from Target. When I tried to install it i had that problem where the installation froze at 33%. So I manually installed it with Dispel Illusion's instructions, and i was able to play the game. The next day, i was loading the game and it froze up. When i rebooted my pc the CD\DVD-RW drive was corrupted. Now i really want to play Sims 2, but i don't want the drive to crash or the game to freeze. My Question: Is there a way i can play the game without having to use the cd's, i mean, i own the game, so is there a way to do that? I am worried that I might screw up the new CD\DVD-RW drive. Please Help!!!

Playing without the disc will cause all sort of problems. Basically it can't be done. :(

You probably have a problem with the disc copyright protection clashing with the DVD drive's burning software. Did it come with Nero or Sonic?

    Try this instead: http://forums.worldsims.org/showpost.php?p=105428&postcount=4

Unless you need to do a lot of burning of CDs/DVDs (as opposed to burning simple data discs for just backing up files or storing mp3s) Windows Media Player does a perfectly good job of burning playable CDs from mp3s ... at least it does on my puter, which has a Liteon DVD-RW and DLA disabled - (cos it gets sniffy and won't let me play some games if I enable it)

DLA stands for Drive Letter Access and is a feature of Sonic/Nero software.

 Yes, it (the computer) came with Sonic DLA as well as Sonic Record Now. I'm sorry but I do not understand what Sonic DLA has to do with it corrupting my CD-DVD\RW drive. It just didn't work, and the drive had to be replaced.

Just as a point of reference, you can't corrupt a piece of hardware. You can break it, but not corrupt it.

:depressed: What if I copy all the files from all four discs to the hard drive, will that do any help? Can I play Sims 2 like that? HD space is not an issue for me.

Disable Sonic DLA and the game wuill work. You can install the game from a disc image, but you can't run the from one. Various options such as save, build and buy modes will not work if the disc is not in the drive. I have told you the correct advice. Disable DLA. It's the only way. If the drive needed replacing that was due to something else, not the game.

I dont know,i guess you should take her advice and do it because if she says its the ONLY way and if you really wanna play the sims that much you should just do it.

*sigh* I told you once in post #2, above. You don't need it to burn CDs. (IMO)
