    installing expansion packs...

Do you need the original Sims 2 cd's to install an expansion pack. i have the game installed on my computer but no longer have the CD's. and once the the expansion pack is installed, which cd do you play the game on..the expansion pack CD or original sims CD? thanks in advance :) xxx

You need to have the original game discs available when you install an EP. There is a point when the game says that it is checking to see if "installation is up to date" (which means "does this person really have the base game available").

This is done as a way of preventing software piracy. It's considered software piracy if you install the game, then sell the game back, give the discs away or have borrowed them from someone. Any part of the game which you no longer have is supposed to be removed from the computer before you do so.

Once the EP is installed, the disc (usually #1) of the most recently installed EP is the one which is in the computer to play it.

If you have the "Holiday" addition (as opposed to the "Holiday" stuff pack), it has the original Sims in it. It should accept the last disc of the Holiday addition. (That was a special "base game" edition, so you don't need to go buy the basegame separately.)
