    registry installation?

well if any of you have all of the expansion packs of the sims 2 then you know how much of a pita it is to install them all. what i want to try to figure out how to do is to just copy my reg entries for the game and the installation files and to magically get the game to run without reinstalling it. now does anyone know how to do this? i've already copied the reg entries into another installation of xp, i made sure the paths were right, but when i go to run family fun stuff, it says that the sims 2 isnt installed... if i try to install the latest expansion, again it says it isnt installed. so there must be some info somewhere else besides the registry, otherwise why can't i get this to work?

Copying the registries doesn't help much. You also need the other components installed. There's probably hundreds of entries made by The Sims 2 in your system registry as well as your game batch files.

not trying to be rude but you are wrong I would say 95% of all games run solely with c++ installed on your os and the required registry files 90% of those game all have their entries located in Hkey local machine\software which the sims 2 does but also has some other hidden ones.

I use this exact described method for all of my games games which about 65 including every sims 2 expansion pack and run them all after a os install and running a .reg file. you can even put your games on a external along with the entries you need and take your games to a friends comp this way

the sims though was a tricky s.o.b. I had a the same problem and couldn't figure out why the sims 2 was the only one not working and finally I located the mystery registry entries. and id be glad to tell you where they are:

    Hkey_Local_Machine\software\windows\currentversion\app paths

here is a sticky evga thread all about this and I dont know how people pc gamed without doing this.
