    Bad News for Popeye

Breaking story in the US: ALL fresh spinach has been recalled. Apparently there's been more than 100 cases of e-coli sickness in people who ate it and they're not sure where it originated from.

It's been a long, hot, wet, summer. I'll bet all sorts of strange fuzzy things have been growing.

I feel bad for the spinach growers!

Thought you'd all like to know. Now you have an excuse not to eat your (fresh) spinach.

Yikes. That's not too good, and something I wouldn't have expected from a veggie.

My mom grows spinach in the backyard. Hope it doesn't affect our stock.

I happen to like spinach. I'm such a weird kid.

Funny thing is, I can't eat spinach that's not fresh. I mean I could.... but I think it's kind of nasty. Spinach salads are good things though :D

.....but at the very least, not for the next few weeks.

    Thanks SBW!

    suitemichelle Gramma's here!

the spinach involved was possibly irrigated with contaminated water... so plants absorbed the e coli bug. won't wash off... your back yard spinach is probably fine.

I wonder if boiled water would kill it. I usually like a good boiled spinach, then stir fry it in garlic :)

I don't know. They're just saying, don't eat it, so I'd listen. I like spinach too, always have (I was a weird kid too, 123), but not enough to die for it.

Yeah, I don't think backyard spinach would be affected, but I'd cook it just to make sure. They're just not sure where the contamination came from, is all.

    So, broccoli all around?

Yep, so far just the U.S.

So unless you get your spinach from across the "pond" you should be OK. :)
