    sims 2 university

I got sims 2 university a little while back. I have had sims 2 for about 6 months and it has run great. So after I got S2U I went to play it and it runs VERY slow. Like after AT LEAST 15 minutes of loading and another 10 to move my sim into a dorm area I can't get them to do anything outside the house enless I wanna wait another 10 to 15 minutes for loading time. What could I do to speed this up? I really want the whole sims 2 collection. What would help my computer to be able to carry the load? I have:

    GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR
    Windows XP Home Edition
    520 MB RAM
    Intel Celeron D 340 2.93Ghz
Mach Speed Matrix P4M800 Via Socket 478 MicroATX Motherboard

A lot of us are not technical at all, so we don't know the answer. I'm sorry, but one of the computer-dudes/chicks will answer eventually. In the meantime, you can post the question on another forum if you want.

The most I think I could say is to perform a hard drive defragmentation. Sorry :(

Maybe someone else will chime in? :)

lol well thanx guys. It's good to know there is actually people out there lol. Yea I think I need to just upgrade my video card and/or my processor but I really want to know from someone who actually knows what they are talking about first. I just kinda know what they do and how to build em lol.

Your processor should be sufficient, even though it's a celeron. You could use more RAM because, whereas 1/2gb of RAM is playable, it's not going to give you top ability. A full gb of RAM seems to make a bit difference compared to 512mb (1/2 gb) of RAM.

It also depends on what kind of RAM you actually have. For example, 512mb of PC3200 RAM is going to work better than older forms of RAM. (Although 512mb of DDR2 PC5300 RAM will beat 512mb of PC3200 RAM which is usually DDR1. Shoot, it's hard to find anything online right now which is not at least PC3200 or better.)

A new graphic card might help rendering happen faster.

However, John's suggestion of doing a disc defrag should come before any buying/upgrading. If your drive is overfull or badly fragmented it won't be able to run nearly as well as a computer who's drive has at least 25% free space and has been cleaned and defragged.

Load times are also *very* much affected by how much you have in your downloads folder. If you are, like I am, a downloading maniac, then you can have *really* long load times no matter how fast and high tech your computer is. For example, when I take my 7gb downloads folder out and *then* start the game, my initial loading time drops from 15 minutes (or more) down to about 2 minutes or less. (And Uni seems to run slower than some of the other EPs. Once I added Nightlife, for instance, my load times at the house level noticeably improved.)

awesome thank you! Yeah I ran a defrag and it runs about 2 minutes faster. Which is alot when your needin a sim fix pretty bad lol. Ummmmm I don't know what kind of RAM I have lol. I just got what looked like it would fit at best buy lol. But! YES! Thank you for all your help.
