Exception code: 0xC0000005 Access Violation When I try to run the Sims 2 University Expansion Pack the main image displays then goes away and then nothing happens. I tried to run it over and over again then I began racking my brain for the answer to the problem. I noticed that everytime I ran the game, 2 files were created in the game .exe folder, a Sims2 exception text document and a corresponding Sims2 exception .mdmp file. I opened the text document and it says the following: Exception time: 09/25/2006, at 17:43:50. Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION. Current thread ID: 3508 (0x00000db4). I'm sorta curious to know why you are running this directly off the CD. But in any case, download the latest patches and installing them. http://thesims2.ea.com/update/getpatch.php?appVersion=1.1&languageCode= Does it work after you install the game patch?
I just installed the university expansion pack and I'm having exactly the same symptom. I did install the patch. I have *not* gone through all the trouble of updating drivers yet and uninstalling/reinstalling if necessary, all of which I'll do next. But if anyone including the original poster has actually run into this problem and resolved it, I'd be happy to know how.
Actually I *think* I worked around the problem myself. Just for the benefit of anyone else that comes along... My daughter's PC already had Open for Business expansion installed. We installed University and tried to play by clicking the University icon and it would just crash right after the intro screen, as described in the original post. However, it occured to me to try just starting the game with the Open for Business CD instead of the University CD to see if it would work that way, and it appears that it works fine. We started the game with the Open For Business CD and she was able to add a campus region to her town and start playing. So *apparently* problem solved -- or worked around at least.
Ahhh... indeed, that's right. You should always be running the game off of the most recently released (not installed) expansion pack. At any rate, glad to hear your problem was resolved -John
Ok I got the same exception code but my problem seems to be slightly different. I was playing the game fine last night and then tried to start up tonight and when the blue loading screen came up, it got about 1/4 the way through and crashed on me. The other thing I noticed is that the blue loading screen is a different resolution than normal. I had it set for my screen at 1280x1024. Exception time: 10/27/2007, at 00:25:50. Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION. Current thread ID: 3780 (0x00000ec4). Application/module configuration: ReleaseSRT Like I said, it was working fine less than 24 hours ago, and I don't remember changing anything on my computer other than my desktop background. I'm on an HP Pavilion with Vista Home Premium, 1Gb RAM, processor 1.86GHz, graphics: integrated Intel GMA 950 I have these expansions: University, Nightlife, Open for Business, and the Family Fun and Glamour Life Stuff Packs
to update, my problem turned out to be my sound card. the first thing everyone seemed to want to blame was the graphics card, but it was the sound.
GoFeesh - can I ask what the problem was with your sound card & if you managed to get it fixed? I've recently run into some serious game problems and I have an exception log with this same message in it. The only thing that was changed on my computer between playing a working hood & findiong a Borked hood was someone uninstalling a Music download software, so I'm suspicious that there was something needed that in there. :| thanks
Unfortunately, I doubt we have the same problem. The sound for the game wasn't working when my game began to crash (and when it was crashing, it wasn't loading the game up at all, just got to the middle of the load screen). Then I discovered that the sound in all of my computer games wasn't working. After a week or two I ended up with no sound on my computer at all, so I don't know the specific problem, but basically I had a bad card. I replaced the sound card with a new one and everything is working fine. Seems that this code is way general and doesn't actually tell you anything useful.
well, my sound works fine, so that's not it then. thanks anyways. At this point, I can only think that it's a Vista thing. This computer should be able to blow thru the game w/no problems and yet I've had more random crashes in the past few months than I ever had on my old Dell. *sigh* Time to break out the back ups.
