i'm thinking about getting a pc with a nvdia geforce 7300 le video card. i was wondering if the sims 2 would run with that. i'm not sure if it's T&L capable. i think it may be.
anyway, any help on this would be much appreciated.
    thanks

    Really??
I'm using a Geforce 6800 xtreme with all expansions but Pets and it plays beautifully! Is there a reason why you should be using the higher graphics cards other than to waste yet more of your money?

You're right about that. It's the *radeons* that have the 4 digit numbers that one has to be careful of.

The Geforces *without* the single digit numbers are ok, it's the radeons that need to be above 8300. Shoot, although I suspect that they will be out soon, the highest number for the Geforces is 7950 right now.

May I rant a little here?

I've been thinking I should update my graphics driver. Everyone's pictures from the game look so crisp in detail and outline that I am thoroughly envious. I decided that an upgrade to the driver would be the first thing to try, rather than trying to replace the graphics card itself. :scratchchin:

So this morning I followed the links. However, the ATI site makes my head spin. They seem to be saying that I need to uninstall the current driver, and everything connected to it, first. :eyepopping: :scared:

Then they beat on their chests about the wonderful improvements to at least four different (I think) software downloads that seem to do everything your heart desires with any game. (They list a number of games, although not Sims2.) The implication is that it isn't just a graphics card driver you're downloading, but a whole bunch of stuff which, they say, needs to be included for the driver to work best.

None of it is straightforward. I can't fathom what any of it does. :boggled: All of it appears to be aimed at people like my son, people much more deeply involved in computers than I am. Worst of all, I cannot figure out which of the four different driver packages offered would work best on my computer. They all claim to be for my particular chip type (Radeon X300 SE), but vary for other obscure and incomprehensible reasons, with warnings that if you don't also have such-and-such loaded on your computer already then you'll get the famous BFBVFOS (if I remember JMP's warning correctly.)

I'm totally lost. :sigh: I guess I'll have to hope my son comes by here for a visit whenever he returns to the States. Why couldn't it have been a simple "Oh, THAT graphics card. Click here." ???

I guess I should mention that I fear losing everything important to me on my computer if I install the wrong software. I suppose I could backup stuff on DVDs. Maybe when I have a week off with nothing else to do.

Download this and install it. You need to have microsoft's .net package. (Just install it and it will complain if you dont have it, then just goto the microsoft homepage and search for 'net framework package' or something like that anyway.

Don't remove any drivers, they should just install over. The chances of the drivers corrupting the hard drive are slim to none so you should be 100% safe.

Else wait till your son gets home and get him to update the drivers. :p

EDIT: I'm very evil and leeching off ati so I'll try to post the link later.

EDIT AGAIN: Anyway I think you were in the right place, just download the 'Catalyst Control Center Package' 34.6MB it should be.

Thank you, Flamey, very much. It all worked out OK. I got the .NET package and also a new driver. With some things in the game it's like getting a new pair of glasses. With other things there doesn't seem to be much change which I suppose is a function of the quality of the download. Most importantly, of course, I didn't get any error messages.

It is probably entirely my imagination but scrolling around my lots in Sims2 when my view of the neighborhood is set to Extra Large seems to work more quickly and smoothly.

Anyway, I'm attaching a little picture I took at the Village market. Some items, like these, look much better.
