    reaction on thread "crack"

i wanna clear something up. Asking for cracks doesnt mean you got a pirated game. There are alot of gamers among us (including me) that dont want to put the cd in the pc everytime you want to play a game.. I could be switching out cd's all day long. and if you got 3+ games you play, it gets annoying very fast.
A crack can be the sollution for this. It doesnt mean you havent bought the game..

I don't think that anyone is accusing you yet of pirating the game.

EA Games and Maxis have installed programs or something on their games so that if you try to run programs to make the game work without a serial number or without the CD the game will not work at all. I don't really know anything about programming so I don't understand it.
There are some games that work without the CD's, some games that you can crack, yes. This game just isn't one of those games and I'm sorry that you're so upset about this, but really there is nothing that anyone on this forum can do for you.
Also I believe it is against forum rules to ask for a crack or about pirated games. A moderator would need to back me up on this.

nono.. im not saying i want a crack or someone is accusing me...
i was just referring to the other (closed) thread. It was closed cos the person asked for a crack. The others were assuming he had a pirated cpoy of the game just because he asked for a crack. I was just explaining here that asking for a crack doesnt neccesarely mean he got an illigal version. cracks for games you own can be quite usefull. (no-cd)cracks can be found for the sims.. i know, cos i tend to use no cd cracks..
i find it easy to use, you dont have to put the cd in everytime.. i play alot of different games, just what i feel like playing, switching cd's takes too much effort :p

I can understand wanting the no-CD crack so one, who does have an official CD, doesn't always have to be popping it in and out of the computer.

From what I understand the reason it's frowned upon is due to the one-user* license with the games. If someone had the no-CD crack then they could be running the program on several computers after borrowing the original CD from a friend; returned it and continue to play the game without the friend's CD - thus not purchasing their own copy (which in turn then becomes a form of piracy).

Perhaps that's just my own view on the crack, but unless stated otherwise by someone higher-up I'll continue to mod that way when the subject arises.

*Sorry, my mistake. I guess it's a one-user license, not a one-computer. I appologize for the mix up.

Like I said, I don't know much about programming. All I know is how to play the game ^_^
I can certainly understand not wanting to switch CD's all the time, I'm an impatient person by nature so anything that requires repetitive effort irritates me (or maybe I'm just lazy).

Snake, I play on both my laptop and my desktop with the same disks, that isn't considered piracy since they both belong to me, am I right? Just making sure because I don't want to break any laws.

BTW- I read the thread that you were referring to Neshi and it did seem as though that person didn't have a legal copy of the game to me. I don't know the specifics, and I don't know the person, but I would have taken it the same way.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure on that either. I just remember something about one-computer* licenses along with The Sims. But that was a year or something ago, so maybe it's different now.. or I forgot a major detail. Personally I don't really see a problem as long as it's your own, legally bought, game... but some copyrights are pretty weird on their rules.

Could perhaps another mod confirm or discredit this license thing? (I can't seem to find anything regarding it now).

While there are some "non-pirated" reasons for using a no-CD method, it's *still* considered software piracy.

While switching CDs is a pain, it's still one of the few ways that software companies have of making sure that the "one game one user" is in place and that the person has not sold the game or downloaded a pirated version. While it may be ok to have the game installed on more than one computer belonging to a user, it's *not* ok for them to share the game. That's considered software piracy according to EAs policies.

That's why discussions of "no CD" methods are not allowed either on the official site or on this one.

This thread is now going to be locked.

Actually, that person *said* that they wanted it because they didn't want to have to pay for the game. (It may have been in a deleted thread that preceeded the one which was only locked.)

This is what they said, with some "editing" to remove the swearing that went with it:
"sorry i dont have 4000 SK to buy some **** game....i can play it and i dont must have original"

However, discussion of no-CD cracks is still not allowed on this board since we don't want this site used to get the information by someone who *is* pirating the game.
