    TS2 and LCD monitors

Does anybody play the game on an LCD flat-panel monitor? How does it look?

My mom sent me some money to buy my own Christmas gift, and I'm considering a flat-panel, but somehow I've gotten it into my head that the game won't look as good on one as it does on my CRT. Unfortunately, I don't have access to one that I can run the game on to see what it looks like. I'm probably wrong, it probably looks just as good, but I just can't convince myself.

So if there's anybody with a decent video card using an LCD monitor, how is it? Can you see every finger and every blade of grass? Does the anti-aliasing work or are there jaggy edges? Does it run a high resolution okay?

I don't have a LCD monitor yet, but am planning on buying one very soon.

The game will probably look even better on a LCD screen, as long as you buy a good LCD.

Read what the box says, you want it to be faster than 8ms, 5ms is even better, while 2ms is the best but a lot more expensive. Also try not to buy a widescreen monitor, as sometime the computer will stretch the screen.
The monitor should also tell you what it's native resolution is, that means what resolution it runs best with. You should choose this resolution as it will look best with that particular monitor.

I have an LCD monitor! I saw major improvements in the game when we hooked it up. The fingers are separate and you can see the grid on the back of the refrigerators. Not sure about the individual blades of grass... Unfortunately, it gets really blurry on lots with big houses and/or lots of sims, but I'm pretty sure it was the same way on the old monitor. I say go for it.

I have a widescreen LCD monitor from Gateway....LOVE IT! I've never had an issue with it stretching the screen though.

I also agree with 123, things are so much clearer with a LCD monitor. Of course I never used this monitor on my old computer so it could also just be my graphics screen.

This is the monitor we have.

I have an LCD flatpanel monitor, but I do not have The Sims 2 installed on the desktop computer. It does look like it has a crisper image, and the added bonus is that it doesn't take up as much space on your desk as a regular monitor would. :D

Im using a LCD monitor, and I cant exactly say the graphic is better than my old monitor because I cant remember well, lol, and also because when I changed my monitor, I also upgraded my graphic card. The finger seeing is true, but not too sure about the grass, I hadnt really bothered bout that :p But the graphic does look good though :D

Thanks everyone, you've got me convinced... as long as I get one with a fast response time and a decent native resolution I should be okay. Guess I'm going monitor shopping this weekend... ;)

Good luck! I too have a flat, wide screen monitor and I love it. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new one. ;)

Well, I got my monitor yesterday. And believe it or not, I haven't played the game on it yet... LOL. It's a Samsung 931C 19" (not widescreen) with 2ms response time, native resolution 1280x1024.

I do plan to play in just a little while, but wanted to stop in and catch up in here first. I've been offline since Saturday, had a hard drive die on me... the one my Sims live on! Fortunately I think I saved them - hooked up the drive in my fiance's PC and got it to run just long enough to make an image before it went for good. Hopefully when I go to play later tonight I'll find my Simmies alive and well - otherwise I'll have to come up with a tragic ending for "In Another World".

Just checking in to see how you're enjoying your new monitor.

Also, I hope you were able to save your sims!

I did play for a little bit Wednesday night, and so far so good. At least the one house I played was intact, so I'm taking that as a good sign.

As for the monitor, I think I still have some tweaking to do before I can make a fair assessment. I've got it pretty well setup for the desktop, but in the game some of the lighter colors are appearing rather washed out. Actually made it difficult to read certain areas of the game's control panel - I especially had trouble seeing how many skill points my Sims had. But I think if I fiddle with the color modes it may improve.

Santa's bringing me a 19" flatscreen monitor for Christmas. I'm very excited!!!

And, for my birthday I'm getting a new processor.
