    error message 39

    Hi everyone,

I had the sims 2 working along with nightlife, and I decided to install a patch for it to fix any errors in it. Well all that did was cause errors. It told me to reinstall sims 2. So I did, and it said "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "ealogo_audio.movie" could not be read or written. error code 36. Does anyone know what this means? So after this I deleted everything out to reinstall without any sims stuff on the computer.. I still get this message. I have Mac 10.4.8 I don't understand what happened, but all I know is it will not let me install it again. please help me!

I also have Error Code 36.

The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "Archive.pax.gz" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).

I just bought Pets (the only expansion pack I have so far), and it installs about 95% and then it has an error and tells me to install it again. And the above mentioned Error code 36. I'm not sure what to do.

Is this because I have the patch for the orginial game installed? (The one to stop the kids from looking all identical). If so, how do I get rid of the patch (Not sure where it is!).

Not to sure about Macs, but game patches are not normally removeable since they usually modifiy the game's core executable file(s).

However error 36 is connection error .... see this article

Where did you get the patch for the game you are using? Was it from the official Sims 2 game site (Maxis/EA)? Or was it from the Aspyr game site? If you got the patches from the EA site, that is probably what caused your problem. The EA site supports the PC version of the game - NOT the Mac version!

Although Macs can use many of the in game downloads from that site, such as objects, some lots, etc, as far as I understand it, you should NOT be using the patches from the site for your Mac. Any needed patches would come from the Aspyr site, as they are the official developers for the Mac version of the game. And if I remember correctly, there has only been one patch for the game form Aspyr (and that may have even been for the Sims 1!)

Unfortunately, I am not sure at this point how to fix your problem, short of doing a complete clean reinstall of OS X and all of your other programs (shudders - memories of the dark windows days), which I am not advocating unless you really know what you're doing!

Hopefully, one of the more experienced Mac users will have more of a clue. (JohnEZ - are you out there?)

UPDATE: I just noticed the IMPORTANT threads listed at the the top of the Mac Discussion thread page...They provide links to the ONLY patches that has been issued for the Mac version of Sims 2. The patches were distributed by MacGameFiles.com for Aspyr.
