Help!!! Hello, this is my first thread here so don't judge me hard! I have the game from a long time. I got a brand new DELL for Christmas, upgraded with everything new, fast and etc. When I start the game it crashes when it tries to load a town and there is an error message: "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate." I have tried everything that I could think of , plus I have send my problem to EA Games - the only thing that they said is to update my drivers ans DirectX.......I am so frustrated at this point....I have a beast PC and a game that does not work..... PLEASE if someone can help me with any suggestions - more than wellcome!!!! Thank you, Eli
So, have you gone to ATI and updated your driver? It's not uncommon for new computers to ship without having the most recent driver installed. And if the driver is not updated, that could certainly cause the game to terminate. Unfortunately, the "application will now terminate" message is not specific enough to help. (And I don't have access to the code meanings, so even given a code wouldn't help.) The other thing is that you haven't said which games you've installed, if you have downloads or the like. Sometimes, a conflicting download can cause the application to terminate. Another thing which could be a problem is that you haven't optimized your AMD duo core processor to work better with games. TS2 is not set up to utilize more than one processor and sometimes when the computer tries to recruit the second processor to do things like loading faster, it will crash. You can get the "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" from the AMD site. Download it and run the setup.exe for that and it may work better. It's unlikely that a computer manufacturer would bother to do that before it's shipped. I have a similar processor, the 4400+, and until I got the optimizer I had more crashes than I'd had on my previous machine. I can't remember exactly what the URL was, but I found it by googling "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" so I'm sure you can do that for yourself. Also, look in your My Documents/TheSims2 folder for things like "accessory.cache", "groups.cache", "cigen.package" and "contentregistry". Delete any of these that you have. They are meant to help the game load more quickly, but if you have changed to a different computer or changed configurations on the same computer, it may conflict. Sometimes even adding custom content can make those not workable for some reason. By the way, you might want to have move descriptive titles for your questions. Just writing "Help" doesn't mean anything here, since *everyone* in this section wants help. Something like "crashing when I load my neighborhood" with the same more full description in the body of the thread. (Don't say "see above" or anything like that. Rewrite it so that it is easier to understand.) Having poorly descriptive titles may prevent people from bothering to look to see what your question really is, so it may take longer to get an answer.
thank you Thank you very much for all the suggestions, I will try to do everything that you said! I updated my driver, but I think I saw somewhere that somethimes an older driver is better than tha newest one. The game that I have installed is The Sims 2 (Original) That's it! I don't have any CC or anything else with the game, it's clean. I have downloded the patch though! I will write again when I have the optimizer installed. Thank you again!
It's true that sometimes a new driver can be cause problems. But most often the problem is due to not having the newest driver. (Basically, if there are newer drivers, then try the newest. If you have the newest driver, then roll back to one of the archived ones, working backwards from the newest.) It depends on why the driver was updated. I think your best bet at this point is getting the duocore optimizer. Hopefully that takes care of the problem.
Ok, so I found the optimizer, I installed it but - same thing...........I have the newest driver so I'll try with an older version. I also removed the files that you talled me to - "accessory.cache", "groups.cache", "cigen.package" and "contentregistry. Will see how it will go..... Thanks!
