Could you post up detailed specs about your computer please?

I'm having the exact same problem - the expansion pack installs and then it asks me to insert Sims 2 CD4, then it says "The process did not complete sucsessfully. Installation will now terminate" at which point the installation bar thing goes backwards from 100%

This is happening on both my laptop and PC, and i don't know why because i had the expansion packs installed on my PC before with absoloutly no problems...

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem. I don't have computer specs to post up, but it all (the original game and 5 exps) ran perfectly well on my computer until recently when I had to reinstall WinXP.
I have the Sims 2 DVD version though and it's installed the original game perfectly but won't allow me to install any expansion packs. It gets all the way through the installation and then asks for the DVD to check my game and it says it can't read the disk (which it can because I only just installed the original game using that disk).
It's so frustrating, I haven't been able to play my game for months now. :( Any ideas what might be wrong?

Hey, Cassie. Good to see ya.

You might have two sources of error to check.

The first is in the expansion packs' built in game update (patching) utility. This, typically, is prone to crashing if the game is already patched.

I recommend that reinstalls should follow with the EPs in order of release and no patching done until after all installing has been completed. NOTE you should still play test each pack to be sure the install was faultless before proceeding.

The second problem to examine is to check for the way your puter is set up to burn CDs. Windows XP has all the needed built-in software for CD burning, but as you have a DVD drive your computer might have come with some other software, such as Sonic, which can cause problems if it is given free range. Open My Computer and right click on the DVD drive and see if it has Drive Letter Access enabled (ticked). If the option isn't even there then that's probably not the problem.

Thanks Mirelly! :) The help is much appreciated. I'll check into that and let you know how I go. I hope I can fix the problem, I'm going crazy not being able to annoy the heck out of my Sims. LOL Oh and it's good to post here again, even if it's just for help this time. I missed this place, but couldn't bear to read it because everytime I come here I get the urge to play. :D

Yay!! Once again I'm a Sims addict (wait...did I ever really stop being one?). :D I checked and double checked everything and in the end what happened was that the initial reinstall of the base game didn't work (yes, it was the DVD drive that was the problem there) and then it wouldn't uninstall properly, causing installation of the expansion packs to fail each time. So I (well, I confess I actually enslaved my dear ol' father to do the hard work) went through manually and removed everything that needed to be removed.
And now everything is reinstalled and running perfectly (so far). I even decided to start with a clean game this time, except for Strangetown because I can't bear to part with my alien quads. LOL They're special to me.

So, I'm a gamer once more. WooHoo!
