    PC Reboot

    1. Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
    2. System Memory RAM (MB/GB) 512MB RAM
    3. Windows Version (98/XP etc.) XP Home Edition
    4. Free Hard Disk Space 283MB used, 965MB available
    5. Total Hard Disk Space
    6. DirectX Version DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    7. Display Adapter hightech excalibur radeon 9250
    8. Display Driver Name and Version Number & date ati2dvag.dll, 6.14.0010.6606 (English), 3/22/2006 03:56:42
    9. Approximate Total Video Memory 128mb
    10. Game Detail: SIMS 2 , Open 4 business
    11. Nature of problem Im currently only getting about 15-20 mins gameplay before my entire system shuts down. I previously had sims 1 and all the expansion packs installed and never had a problem and it only seems to reboot when im playing the sims 2 game. Sometimes saving the game triggers the pc to shut down but it is mostly random and without warning. Please help as this is getting increasingly frustrating.

    Ok my advise,

    1. Shut down all background programs before playing

    2. Go into the processes tab and end all unnecessary processes that are taking up big amounts of space (ie. 20,000kb)

    3. Lower the quality settings in the Sims display options

    4. Also, in the processes tab, if you see sims2 listed in there, right click it, go down to priority and select real-time. NOTE: this only works if you have 2 CPU's ;)

    Good luck ;)

Sounds like a BSOD is automatically restarting your computer. Search for a post my ManagerJosh. He explains how to turn off the auto restarting. If this works tell us what the BSOD says.

I wouldn't shut down anything in the processes tab unless you know what they are, you really don't want to stop something that's important to your system.

NEVER set and process to real-time. If something goes wrong with the program your whole computer will just freeze up while the CPU keeps ticking over. The highest you should go is 'High' but above normal should do fine.

How do I get to your ManagerJosh thing that you said before? Also, on my computer it says that BIOS memory is shutting down my computer, and that the problem is because of file: ialmdev5; well I think that's what it is anyways. So, if you could just explain why this keeps going on it would be much appreciated.

Lizzie: See the FAQ's (my signature) and make sure you get the latest drivers for your hightech excalibur radeon 9250 display card.

Then reoload the game and first of all click the Video/Display setting button and make sure all the detail settings are set at the lowest level. This will make sure that you have removed all strain on your computer memory and system.

Then start by playing a small family (make one with Create A Sim if you have to ... just two grown ups and a child maximum) on a small lot (one of the tiny premade houses will do) ...cheat them some extra money if you need more and just play with the family for a good while, say about 1 an a half hours )more than that is inadvisable for health and safety reasons. If you get 90 minutes without a problem then feel free to jack up the display settings one notch at a time .... but save first :p

Let us know what happens .... ;)
