yeah I think two weeks is the longest wait.

If you're ready in a hurry goto MGSN and register for an account. You will get the same thing you would, expect you will be part of their network.

Heh, took me 3-5 MONTHS! I went and got other hosting.

If i were to give simgames a rating out of 10 i would give

0/10. Sorry dude, 3-5 months! I went sumwhere else and was uploading my site within 2 days!

Now that I have a new staff member that has the ability to add accounts, I expect things to move much more quickly.

I'll be playing catch up for a bit, given I get at least 2-5 applications every day.

And I checked your application data. My information indicates your application took approximately 2 months to be completely processed. You originally submitted your application on 2/10. Clearly, this is still not ideal, but your numbers were a little off. We'll strive to improve these times over the next month or so.

I presume you are alluding to maxisgamer.net. Thanks for the laugh, that site is quite amusing how they completely and blatently ripped simgames.net :)

I assume so. If/when I get my account and start hosting people I'm not going to rip word-for-word anything of simgames (except, of course, the TOS) since I don't plan on offering people the same plan(s). If it wasn't for the time factor I'd see little reason to get hosted by them instead of SimGames if the service is so exactly the same that it says simgames.net on the hosting page...

Why should you waste simgames.net resources when people can just go to simgames.net to get hosting.

The most significant difference between hosting with one of our members and directly with us is that you have to host directly with us to get access to a control panel and consequently a great deal of control over your site.

Also, I don't delete accounts on a whim, which has happened with some of our members' hosted sites, which has resulted in some complaints back to me in the past.

Suffice it to say that overall I am not fond of people running hosting networks on SimGames.net, which is why the change tomorrow will make the default domain hosting plan be "Level 1" for new accounts, which does not provide enough resources for an account to host any sites. Gone will be the days where people would sign up for accounts with the idea that they were going to build up a mighty free hosting empire of some kind. :)

This will be quite a bit less of a pain in my neck.

And by the way, I am not opposed to established sites offering hosting to a few sites, but I very much dislike sites that are trying so hard to be hosting networks they don't bother to actually run a web site.

Hypothetical situation. I have a fansite for a MMORPG. I love the game, but with school recently I haven't had much time to play it, and so thusly not enough time to do much updating tho site with any new content. What's the best and easiest way to keep people coming back? A small community of other players hosted by me who DO have the time to make lots of major updates to their site. Since they're affiliated with me, that makes me look good - even if I'm not updating much my members update all the time.

There's nothing that says you have to host sites to be affiliated with them. SimPage.net had tons of affiliates, and we didn't host any sites (or honestly update very often toward the end). It was the fact that we had "friendly" sites linking to us that helped us bring in visitors.

Hosting doesn't really have any relevance to driving traffic to your site (except to attract more people looking for hosting), and when you do offer hosting, you end up spending a lot of time supporting your hosting network. Then, whatever little time you would have had to update your site goes into maintaining your hosting network and your site just falls into disuse.

Sure, that was only one of a lot of possible situations.

That is the reason I didn't want to open a hosting section at SimSational. :) I do host a mate's site for him, but thats all there is. I don't see the point in having hosting sections when people can just go to SimGames.net and get the same stuff plus a CP and better tech support.

PS. Kevin if you read this would you mind changing my site's name on the members page from SimSational Sim Games to just "SimSational"? That would be great :) Thanks!
