Using the keyboard shortcut to rotate causes uncontrolled spinning I've had The Sims2 for about a week. I just purchased Open For Business, and the problem started. Usually the < and > buttons rotate the world. When you're trying to place an object, those buttons rotate the object, and you must use ctrl+< or ctrl+> to rotate the world. That's where my problem is. When I use ctrl+< or ctrl+> to rotate the world while I'm trying to place an object, 90% of the time, the world will spin uncontrollably. Releasing the buttons will not allow the rotation to stop. Note, the problem never happens when i'm NOT trying to place an object, nor does the problem occur when I use the on-screen rotate buttons. I'm using vista, on a very powerful new laptop (dual core 2ghz, 2GB ram, 256mb NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GS video card ... Thanks, Jonathan
This going to sound flip ... ... but I suggest you stop doing that. This will be an issue with you keyboard's set and there's unlikely to be a simple cure. When something like this happens you can often stop the repeat-nature of the action by using the opposite keyboard command ... but that won't put you where you wanted to be. Stick to rotating the world first and then place the object. You might have good motor skills and hand-to-eye coordination but your computer sadly isn't ...
Doing the opposite control does not fix the problem, it only makes it spin uncontrollably in the other direction. Using the mouse to click the on-screen rotate button will stop the rotation.. I hope the only "fix" to the problem isn't to just "stop using that shortcut". It's a very annoying problem, and given how it didn't start until I installed Open For Business, i have to imagine there's a real fix...
Hai caramba! How much time do you spend placing objects where you need to rotate the world at the same time anyway. I mean ... I'm as sympathetic as it is possible to be when a problem has the potential to ruin play but honestly I can't see how this is such a problem. As a player based in England I had a problem with a missing keyboard shortcut that I was forced to find my own cure for (I now use a US keyboard) so I do understand where you would be coming from from if your problem had a serious game-play consequence. I just can't see it. Sorry. Rotate world into position before picking up the object. (BTW I didn't even know about the Ctrl + </> until you posted and, while I don't by any menas know everything, I do think that what I don't know is stuff I can live without ... ) sorry
And very nice ones, I might add. I had that spinning world happen to me once. Very amusing. Thanks for pointing out what it was that I did to cause it, because I LOVE that action, and could not figure out how to recreate it. I could use it for filming. You can build plenty of fantastic stuff without rotating the world. I've built huge, HUGE castles, so big and detailed that they crashed the game when I tried to play them. All without spinning the world around. LOL, I just had to participate in a conversation about rotating the world.
Okay, well I appreciate that you folks are able to create houses without rotating while placing objects, but I like to do it, and I'm seeking a solution to the problem other than "stop doing it."
I hope you have email notification on. I just remembered that I do rotate the world when building and furnishing. But I use the middle mouse button ... So I advise getting a cheap USB mouse from your local store this weekend (if you don't already have one for your laptop) - just make sure that it has a wheel/middle button ... the wheel is also good for zooming in and out.
