How many items are in your Downloads folder?

I've been downloading alot recently, and I made the mistake of revisiting the thread where people put down their favorite sites.
So I highlighted everything in my Downloads folder to see just how much I had. I don't know if it's the average number or if mine is lower than most people's (which I'm sure it is) but now I think it's starting to slow my game down a bit, so no more downloads!...for now.
I have 694 items. I have no clue how much space that is, I don't know how to check. There are some I want to delete but I have no clue which files they are!

6,900 items in 98 sub folders totalling 1.91 gigabytes.

The number of downloads doesn't slow down your games performance in normal Live Mode. They will, however slow down the loading time. They also affect the performance of Body Shop, CAS and catalog modes because the game has to access the downloads folder to bring up all the relevant choices. This can cause long lags while stuff is swapped around between hard disc and RAM.

NOTE. A lot of items (Maxis or CC) can slow the game down if you pack out a house with a very large amount of furnishing and garden objects. The more there is on the lot (sims and objects) the memory is used up and the poorer the performance. If you start with a blisteringly fast machine a small drop in performance will not be a problem, but people whose machines are bare minimum will struggle.

Good thread FFL!!! Let's see what everyone else has! :D

Shall we add a poll, do you think?

I used to have over 5GB in my downloads folder but after I had problems I forgot to back it up and had to start downloading all over again. I now have 1.77GB, 5,360 files in 42 sub folders. It makes it a lot faster to start up now though :D

i use to have some more but when i open the game there was a message alerting me to desactivate the objects i've downloaded , so i just give up of having new stuff for my sims... now i'm starting to make my own floors and walls and someday i will try to do some clothes too, when i get more practise using photoshop :p

That message comes up for everyone, I just ignore it and play with my scary downloads anyway. ;)
Its basically just Maxis saying its not their fault if your game won't work.

What can I say, I'm just a download addict.

Oh, I feel a bit remedial...I only have 342 items taking up 85.3MB of space! But then, after the GBFBVFS incedent, I have been a bit leery of adding back a lot of custom content...

Are we making you feel better about your 694 items? ;)

LOL in a way--yes. It seemed like a big number to me, because I hadn't downloaded that much stuff before. But now you guys are making me feel like I can allow myself to download thousands of more items :p

I have a question though. What do you mean by subfolders? Do you just make a folders inside the Downloads folder? That might make me feel better, thinking "Oh I have 3 subfolders" rather than "I have 694 items" even if I'm on the lower end of the spectrum.

Exactly. Within my download folder I have folders for hair, makeup, clothes, objects, hacks, walls, floors, and more folders for hacks that are made by certain people I like so I don't get them confused. It is an easier way to sort it out if ever need be.

Don't put folders within folders though, those won't show up.

Just a word of caution. Earlier versions of the game did not support sub-folders for custom meshes. I can't recall off-hand when this support came in but if you put a mesh file in a sub-folder and can't find it in the game then that's your problem ... put it back in the root downloads folder :)

NB Good CC artists add the word MESH to the filename of mesh files. Some buggers don't bother and this is a dadratted nuisance and devoutly to be deprecated. :(

My Downloads folder has 5,459 files, 82 folders. 1.88 GB.

And I used to worry. Quite a few of you have me beat.

My downloads tend to follow a costume and weirdo theme, though. Whenever I want to dress my sims in something ordinary, I find that I don't have much to choose from.

Hugz, I am SO in awe. I think my computer is pretty good, but I don't think it could handle your Download file. :D

Ok lets see here, uh *cough* twelve. Yeah laugh, dial-up does not support downloads. I've got Mirelly's glasses in here, and a few xmsims hair. *cough*

I've got dialup. That hasn't stopped me. :p

No way, Lynet. With all your freaky skins and medieval stuff you still have fewer downloads than me? How embarrassing. I have got to kick my clothing habit, obviously.

And this is after deleting more than half of my object downloads. I love the stuff with Seasons and no longer feel the need to keep a lot of my downloads. I think it's time to clean out my walls. I have more than a hundred downloaded walls by various artists ...

Oooh, fuzzy ferret, I feel like a pusher! Come on, just a few thousand more, it won't hurt you ... I will warn you, my game takes a full five minutes to load and my machine sorta rocks.

Especially now that it's dust free.

After another sesh today I've gone up to 7,243 in 95 folders (I did a bit of compacting ;) ) - and that totals to 2.04 gig :(

I feel so disorganised. :p All my downloads are dumped in the same place - no subfolders. And I'm not about to start now either lol. However, I do keep a backup of each set of downloads installed on the same day - I have sub folders in my backup folder, each one titled with the date they were ADDED TO the game, so if i get a bad set, I can see which ones to remove.

I have subfolders for the basics, i.e., Clothes, Hair, Makeup, Accessories, Walls, Floors, ?? I think that's it. All else is just plopped in the downloads folder. Once a week or so I go through it with Clean Installer to see what I have, and since I've installed Seasons, when I'm remodelling a home, if I see something I don't use, I delete it as well. Trying to clean things up a bit.

9.15gb as of this morning. And that's *after* I did some major culling while I was getting ready for Seasons. (It was 8.something before Seasons.)

    That's 41,620 files in 100 folders.

It can take over 30 minutes for my game to load because of the high number. But I get frustrated that I can't use that perfect (fill in the blank) if I take more out. I need to somehow find a way of getting fewer downloads without that frustration of missing something!
