    QUESTION relateding graphics card

I have a gateway mt3705 with the ati radeon xpress 200m, I didnt not see that graphics card on the supported list of the sims2, maybe because this is the newest card? I dunno, BUT what I do know is that the game crashes after the splash and windows says it has a compability problem with the sims. Ive updated my graphics driver, I have updated the sims2 with the patch and ive changed the shortcut to be compatible with windows xp service pack 2, just like it say for vista. I guess one of my last ideas is to find out if there is a way since my card is not supported tweak my computer so it will play them sims, and is that a logical even possible idea.

Hi lanidus. I'm afraid you won't like my opinion, but ... well.

I ran a quick search and gateway mt3705 returned this as the top result:
I didn't read more than that. The game was designed to run on desktop PCs and not on laptops. Now there are lots of people running TS2 on laptops and many of them are even getting good play out of the game on so-called budget machines.

However adding the resource hungry Vista into the mix is begging for problems and I'm afraid you have them in spades. I doubt its possible that you will ever be able to use your laptop for running games like TS2 unless you are prepared to buy a copy of Windows XP and format the laptop and make it into an XP machine (this would be silly :rolleyes ).

Sorry. Maybe you could take it back to the store and tell them you want a refund, cos they sold you lemon painted to look like a nice juicy orange.

Is TS2 even compatible with Vista?

Unless you decide to buy a uber gaming laptop (ie. Alienware), abandon the idea of playing TS2 on Vista reliably with no issues.

thats not too far fetched...this version of vista has not worked for me, so no. I did however borrow my friends pets and it will actually load the game...BUT it crashes after the video before it loads the game so im going to search the forum to see if I can bypass that video.

    Check these links:

    Vista FAQ for TS2

    Intro Movie detail:

    C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Movies

    remove or rename:

    ea_logo_audio
    intro_eng_audio

(renaming is best cos you can restore renamed files - I added "_off" the end of mine)

Note this needs to be done in the same directory oyu use to launche the game. If you start Sims 2 Pets ... you'll need go there as well if you want to lose the EA logo. The intro movie is only installed in the baseline directory, but an EA logo is added for every EP
