sims2pets expansion - please insert disc I have already installed and playing sims2. Recently installed sims2pet ep allwent ok. But when insert disc in DVD Rom to play game - keep getting message please insert sims2pet disc which is in machine and not being detected. help?
Please post a dxdiag report. Look at the FAQs for how to do this. Likely causes of the problem you have include: 1) dirty or scatched disc (remedey examine carefully in good light and clean if needed. 2) Sonic DLA (Drive Letter Access) supplied with a lot of CD/DVD writers. Remedy: Open My Computer and right click the DVD drive and see if you have an option to "Disable DLA" - if you have do it and try the game again. Come back if you still have probs.
Thank you - have tried what you said but no good. Right clicked but could not see any DLA option. You are talking to a novice here trying to sort out her daughter's game (daughter aged 13 and has gone off in a huff because it won't work). Sorry read your previous thread meantime and got details for you. 1. AMD Anthlon (tm) XP3200+ 3DNow 2.2HZ 2. 512MB Ram 3. MS Windows XP Prof 5.1 (Build 2600) 4. 809 MB available 5. 160 GB 6. Directx 9.0c 7. Video Card - ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 9250 (RV280) Radeon 9200 PRO Family 8. Liteon DVDRW LH-18A1P 9. 128.0MB 10. CD Rom - Sims 2, EP - University, Nightlife, Open for Business all CD and all working before loading Pets DVD - Sims2pets - is it a problem that she has loaded a DVD version with all rest being CD versions? 11. When loaded and click to start game with disc inserted in (8 above) keep getting message insert sims2pets disc then press ok - doing so but nothing happening at all. Therefore am reliably informed that said daughter cannot play any Sims as won't accept any other disc inserted except the sims2pets disc which won't work. Read the leaftlet - suggested may need firmware update? Tried but this was downloaded to a temporary file and I (a) can't find it (b) if found don't know what to do with it. Any help please? Grace
OK I have run a search and these probs are very annoying and fiddly to fix. Suggest that you get 13yr old to make nice cup of tea and a sandwich (for you) then: Run through the EA CD troubleshooter (if you haven't already done so) If that fails to get it moving I'm afraid we're hitting my own personal brick wall. There are other better minds around we might have to be patient. I have a Liteon DVD drive and I have to say that the Liteon tech support site might as well be in Chinese for all the use I found it. Unless yours is more than 3 or 4 years old I very much doubt that the firmware needs upgrading. I have always managed to get things to work without such scary activity. (BTW If you donwloaded a firmware update it might have already installed itself, if it downloaded to a temp folder. That's a typical method for downloading and directly running a self-executable file.) The final bit of advice comes from here (it's the last item in EA Games CD errors advice) Actually you could try it first, they might work weekends and you could get and answer before you finish working through the other steps. (SecuROM is what EA use to stop piracy)
Thank you for your suggestion - have tried all but nothing. Son then decided yesterday to remove all sims and start again. Well nothing works now. Sim2 nor any expansion packs will work. Appears to load ok but when try to play - insert CD-Rom/DVD-rom - have got both of these messages now depending on which game try to start. Tried to install then on hubby's new computer - it has Vista and comes up with a compability issue message for Sims2. Daughter is spitting venom at everyone who suggests even the slightest idea and I'm totally stumped for any. Help please.
I have no other ideas, I'm afraid. One minor point to look at is that uninstalling using the game's (or Windows') uninstaller is incomplete. The best way to uninstall in preparation for a reinstall is to perfom the uninstall manually - see here for how to do that (note that in the 3rd section items 4 and 8 will need to be repeated for each expansion you have installed -- or tried to install -- for which a registry entry folder is present ... in other words delete them all from the EA Games and Electronic Arts software directories ... you'll see what I mean when you're actually doing it ) You'll need to be especially careful with the penultimate instruction #14 to be certain that the right 'key' is deleted.) After uninstalling and before installing make certain that the computer's DVD drive is actually capable fo fully browsing the game disc. (In other words cancel the installation after inserting the disc and instead open My Computer and browse to the disc and open all folders and ensure the drive is reading the disc properly).
Its working - at least sims2 and university. Hubby took day off on leave and spent all day dismantling and rebuilding computer - leads off here -cd & dvd drives disconnected and reconnected - and finally yes!!! He went through and deleted/saved on disk a lot of stored folders in case there was something in a folder interfering with the programme. Now we only have to have courage and reinstall the rest. One game at a time. Thanking you for all your help. Grace
