    University Won't Launch

    .

Processor: AMD Sempron Processor 3100+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
    Memory: 382MB RAM
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
Free Hard Disk Space: 65.9 GB
Total Hard Disk Space: 88.7 GB
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6100
    Version: 6.14.0010.8133 (English)
    Approx. Total Memory: 128.0 MB

Game Detail: Own Sims 2, Open For Business EP, Pets EP, University EP

Nature of Problem: When I tried to install the University EP, I assumed everything had gone fine. There were no error windows or any stops during the installation process. However, the game simply will not open. I can double click the icon, go through the Start menu, or insert the disk and it will not launch. The little Sims University logo screen appears and disappears followed by no action (not even in the Task Manager). Ive already uninstalled and reinstalled University once but to no avail. I am completely open to any solutions for this problem. Thank you so much.

Upgrade your NVIDIA driver before coming back if it still won't work. NVIDIA HERE

I installed the newest nvidia driver and still no luck. The loading screen still comes up, but when it goes away, nothing happens.

I have just noticed that you have a number of other expansions and Uni is the last? This could be the problem. Time to reinstall.

    Do this:
    1. Open My Documents and rename the folder EA Games\The Sims 2\
      • I suggest that you rename it from The Sims 2 to My Sims 2
      • This will safeguard your previously played and save games
    2. Now uninstall the whole game
    3. To be certain the game has been completely removed you should consider running through the full manual uninstallation procedure as described at the Official Sims 2 Help Site
      • [NOTE - in those instructions, you will need to perform each step for every expansion pack as well as for the base game - this will be clearer when you read those instructions]
      • [WARNING NOTE - be sure you have all serial numbers before doing the manual uninstall because the manual removal includes removing the registration code from your computer]
    4. Defrag and generally clean up your computer files.
    5. Install The Sims 2
    6. Install University
    7. Go to http://thesims2.ea.com/help/index.php?pid=Help and get the latest Uni Patch.
    8. Install Open For Business (if you were thinking of getting Nightlife soon, get it now and install it before OFB  ) and patch
    9. Install Pets and patch
    10. Finally ...
    11. Open My Documents and delete the folder EA Games\The Sims 2\
    12. Then rename My Sims 2 back to The Sims 2
    13. NOTE - after all this your saved games may be knackered anyway. Just keep your fingers crossed. We have all lost major neighborhoods in Big Fiery Balls Visible From Space, so you'll get sympathy and even tea, but there's no cure, if they game is truly broke. However a clean install should give you back a playable game :D

i'm literally at my wits end.

i manually uninstalled everything exactly as the directions on the Sims site said i should. then, i re-installed the Sims 2 and every expansion pack in the order i was told (i even went out and bought Nightlife and installed it in the right order) but, when i go to launch University, the logo appears, disappears, and then..............nothing. absolutely nothing. back to where i started.

i'm to the point of crying

well, i think i may have found a way around the problem. instead of trying to play University through the University CD, i just launch Pets and click the University option in the neighborhood screen. i'm not sure if that's the correct way of doing things, but at least i'm able to finally play University. =/

Yes, you should play from the cd of the last EP that was installed. All the features of the University EP are there in your game; when you've installed the EP the features will be there - you access them in the game by doing as you've described.
