Extremely long load time in Windows XP First time posting here, Has anyone else had a problem with extremely long loading time with the Sims 2 & Windows XP. I have Sims 2 with Night Life, Open for buisness & Pets expansion packs. This is running on a Compaq 2.4 GHz Athlon 64 3300+ processor with 1 GB of RAM. ATI Radeon 9550 video card. I have had Sims 2 running on this computer before with no problems. Now, after inserting the Sims 2 disc, it takes the normal long time for Windows to detect the disc and get going. The opening video starts playing, you click then everything just stops, it sits there for a minimum of 3 minutes usually longer, then finally the Sims 2 loading screen comes up and the loading process continues as normal. The game runs perfectly just that extremely long lag in the begining of the loading process. I have contacted EA and they have no clue as to what it could be. I have done a complete format and recovery then fresh install of Sims 2, same issue. I have all updates installed both from Microsoft and EA. I even tried Vista and that worked fine with no lag during loading, but had to restore back to XP due to conflicts with other software I use and Vista....imagine that! Any Ideas???? Help because I love this game but its too darn frustrating sitting there and waiting forever for it to decide to start loading.
My game takes a long time to load up because of several thousand downloads in my Downloads folder. I click past the movie and it just sits there. I can hear the harddrive crunching numbers forever. I think that my load time was made worse by the Pets EP. I can't swear to that, however. Someone here mentioned that the game took a half hour to load on their computer, because of huge numbers of downloads. There was even a poll about what people did to pass the time while the game loaded. Do you have a lot of downloads? As in a couple thousand?
