Here's a semi-starter house I created. I know it's small but it's my first semi-starter house. I actually think it looks decent. Tell me what you think.
Looks like a nice house, Zetsumei. I see that you are posting screenshots. You can use the Worldsims Gallery for uploading and posting pictures, too. The method is explained in a couple of places. Try here: http://forums.worldsims.org/showthread.php?t=12423, which also happens to be about posting links, but if you read further, it talks about the pictures. Not that there's anything wrong with the screenshots. Just thought you might like to try out the other systems. Keep on building and showing us the pictures. We all love looking at the houses that people build.
Thanks for the replies. Where could I get some inspiration for more houses? Also, instead of making a new thread I'll ask this here. Which EP should I get next? Seasons or Nightlife? I really want vampires, but I also like the seasons LOL.
Oh, what a tough question. My advice is to get Nightlife first. It adds so MUCH cool stuff to the game, like cars, and new sim interactions. Slow dancing, for instance. I really liked the slow dancing and dating, bowling, pickup trucks to drive, nightclubs, the downtown neighborhood, and the ability to see your neighbors when you look out the windows of your house. Then, by all means, get Seasons as soon as possible after that. Be aware, however, that Nightlife will demand a lot of your computer. But then, so will Seasons. Although, strangely, it's the pets that seem to take my own computer to its limits. Everything comes to a standstill when the game introduces a stray dog onto the lot. Once he's loaded, it's OK.
That's a nice looking house. How much does it cost? I liked the garden area at the front of the house too. Thanks for sharing. Yes, we love to look at everyone's houses here - add the screenies to the house brag thread. You asked about inspiration for more houses - I bought a 'house plan' magazine a while back - it has loads of floorplans for single storey and multiple storey houses. There are ideas for the garden areas too in that magazine. Or you could search on google for floorplans - there are several websites that have all sorts of floorplans for different types of home, different styles etc. I agree with Lynet - Nightlife adds so much to the game, and Seasons is just awesome, though a bit more demanding on your computer. It's worth it though to see all the weather effects and weather related interactions. I bought Pets but never actually made a pet or bought one yet. OFB is really good and I liked University for the extra want slots and extra careers, although Seasons has extra careers too. I would say Nightlife or Seasons is a good choice.
Forgot the price, thanks for reminding me. It costs like 17,000-18,000 (forgot which one) and it's fully furnished so the sims just need a job and they're set. I'm thinking of getting nightlife and seasons tomorrow. I just wish the EP's were 19.99 instead of 29.99 :(
nice house. A little trick I learned about building sim houses is. Lay the foundation, then Put all the furniture in the places you want them. Then build the walls. Then remove the furniture. That way you get the sizes right. Give lots of space so sims don't get stuck. regards moon
Nice house you got there! I'd like to live there. Lots of space. I agree with Lynet and Hugz. Get NL. Who doesn't love those crazy vamps? You can always get Seasons later and that way it'll be easier for you to install Seasons. You won't have to worry about reinstalling your stuff and what-not. :classic:
Sims 2 Expansion Packs were made to be installed in any order (unlike Sims 1 EPs), technically, although the official word from Maxis is that it is recommended to install in the order of release if possible, to reduce the risk of any installation issues occurring.
Yippy I just got Nightlife. I just uninstalled down to sims2 basic, and then installed in order. Nightlife then patched it. ofb(Didn't need patch for dvd ver) and finaly seasons and patched that. then recopied my sim2backup into mydoc EA. And now everthing runs perfect.
I find that I get a lot of inspiration for building simply by walking around my neighborhood! It's gotten to point where when I look at a house, I automatically start thinking, "Hmmm - That house would be 10 squares across the front, and 9 squares from front to back, and the door would be three squares from the left..." (Yes, I know...It's sad really...I also keep reaching for that Pause Button, only to sadly realize that Real Life doesn't have one...)
LOL, Sacha. I am just the same. Trying to design a workable sims house is all about compromises, though. I often start off with a zigged line of front wall because it looks "different" (to/than what I have built before) and then enjoys endless hours of happy wrangling to fit what needs to be fitted behind that facade. The cardinal rules are not so much to do with anything in particlular but with what you know of sims behaviour. Think about the traffic patterns that the sim-occupants will generate. Some rooms, like bathrooms and kitchens, are more prone to traffic jams than others. And know your building materials. Stairs are not all equal. Modular stairs can take one sim per four steps in each direction. Ploppable full staircases can only take one sim per whole flight! Also sims use the right side of stairs to ascend and the left side to descend ... with planning you can avoid having traffic snarl-ups by avoiding cross-overs. Remember that whatever can go wrong will go wrong. If you design a house so that sims have to cross paths to get from watching the TV to sit down to eat a meal then it is certain that they will usually stop to stamp feet because they can't complete their journey.
