Random crashing during normal gameplay on Macs

    Hallo,

Both my cousin and I am having this issue..

I'm running Sims 2 and Pets on a Macbook- technically the graphics card isn't supported, but the majority of the time it runs perfectly. On occasion however the game suddenly quits- no warning. I'm usually running iChat, Safari and Mail at the same time (although Safari doesn't have any windows open). Finder and Dashboard are always running (can't close them).

    Specs:
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per processor:( 4 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Chipset Model: GMA 950
VRAM (Total:( 64 MB of shared system memory
    Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

My cousin's running Sims 2 (no expansions) on a Macbook Pro (which has a supported card afaik) and it's quitting very frequently. Her computer is brand-spankin new and has no background stuff running other than possibly safari.

The first thing I would recommend is that when you play the game, you close all other apps (iChat, Safari, etc. - Finder and Dashboard don't count).

The next possibly culprit for craching is custom content. Have you installed any objects of Custom lots? Try playing the game without the custom Content enabled, or try removing the Downloads folder from the Sims2 Documents folder, and placing it somewhere else. (You can always try adding the downloads back a few at a time to see if you can find the culprit that way.)

As for your cousin's Macbook Pro, I'm not sure. We'd need to know the specs, But I would think that if my old G4 Powerbook (which is absolutely below the recommended specifications) can handle The Sims 2 PLUS all the expansion Packs, then surely a brand new MacBook Pro should be able to! Again, though, I'd have your cousin check out whether or not custom content may be to blame.

no custom content for her whatsoever (the thing is literally brand new and it's the only software she's installed).

i don't *remember* installing anything on this computer but i doubt it.

She told me that hers crashes very frequently and usually when she's doing something a little more intensive (building a house atm). mine will crash every few times i play.

irritating as it doesn't save :/

Man, that is weird! Do either of you have an anti-virus program running? Sometimes, those interfere with the running of the game...
