Intro Hello! This looks like a pretty cool forum, and an active community. I'll follow the loose questionnaire suggested by ManagerJosh in the announcement attached to this forum: Preferred Nickname/Name: Rexer But,that was taken here, so I registered as Rexer @ Simphoni. (Gee, I hope it wasn't an old registration of mine from long ago that I had forgotten! I just thought of that. Favorite Book: The Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy. Heavy reading, I know, but worth it. Favorite Movie Magnolia Favorite Actor/Actress: Several, but near the top of the list are Edward Norton, Ricky Gervais, Meryll Streep, Liam Neeson, Jodie Foster, Kevin Kline, Glenn Close. Favorite Game: Has to be SimCity 4, currently. Favorite TV Show: I'm currently into watching Monk, wouldn't all it my absolute favorite, though. I have started watching Burn Notice from the beginning, and I like that. Other favorites are: Scrubs, Lucky Louie, The Sopranos, Coupling (British version of course), Red Green (though I can't get it where I currently live), My Name Is Earl, The Office. Favorite Colour: Depends what it's on. Favorite Sports: Baseball and tennis. Baseball to watch in person, tennis to play. Favorite Dessert: Seconds. No sweets, though, I'm not really fond of eating sugary sweet pastries, etc., after a meal. Something interesting about yourself: In the sim gaming community, I'm Chairman of the sim-gaming fan site SIMphoni. I'm studying to earn an accountancy certification, and become a licensed CPA. I have worked in freight logistics for 30 years (this month, in fact.) I'm looking forward to enjoying this site.
Welcome to the forums, Rexer. Here's hoping that, between Simphoni and Worldsims, we'll be able to help grow the city building community!
Hi Rexer, welcome to WorldSims! I see you like Ricky Gervais and The Office - welcome to my humour. I love that guy, and did you see his other show called Extras? Truly awesome. I could never get through an episode without crying from laughing. I could watch that show all day and night. Actually might treat myself to that one of these days.
Extras is how I am most familiar with him! It's an absolute can't miss show, that I catch by TiVo! I am familiar with The Office but not the UK version, just the US one, which I know has taken on a whole life of its own apart from its British ancestor. And, I know it's his show. But Extras puts me away every week.
Beginning Friday evening, we migrated to a new server, a much better one in every way, and one which allows us to adapt to changing conditions much faster and more completely. However, our first attempt to move was met with a brick wall. The size of our database was too large to import into a new SQL database at the host we chose. So, late Saturday, we shifted our plans and moved to a different host insteads, one with better command-line shell access, no limits on file size, and lots of cool bells & whistles, including a better, more comprehensive control panel. But then, because of shifting plans in mid-migration, we had time-to-live problems with the DNS entries at the first target host. We worked on it almost constantly over the weekend, but had no choice but to wait out the obsolete DNS entries. For about 3 days, there were new and obsolete competing DNS pointers were routing browsers to different hosts. Now, those obsoete DNS entries have expired, and everyone is able to rejoin the site at its new host. It is faster, more stable, and we are busy adding new features.
And here I thought he meant the "@ Simphoni" at the end of your name. Good to hear you're back up and running, Rexer.
Thank you. We were difficult to find for a few days because of the migration and DNS issues, so I have been getting questions along that linese for much of the week. However, in my sleep-deprived state lately, I could be misinterpeting anything. Forunately, August holds vacaions from both school and work for me, so I am, planning a much-needed recharge of my batteries in the next 4 weeks.
