Changing the allowed resolution from 800x600 I've recently saved enough money to buy all the expansion packs for the sims 2, I need help with a few things though I've had a look through the FAQ, and som eother posts after searching for "resolution", I didn't see anything else there that could help me :( I want to play in 1024, not 800. My PC can handle it (NVidia graphics card if that means anything I've no idea, it's mentioned a lot around here). I started out hijacking my sisters CD's and installed Sims 2, Nightlife and Pets, then bought Seasons. There was a work around the graphics card thing http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?threadID=ede964f23f1f1cd2e3f9608aadd078d7&directoryID=148&startRow=1&openItemID=item.148,item.43,root.1,item.104,item.41,item.127,item.23 here but that's not working any more, the files are still changed though? Pets Nightlife Seasons University Business Family Fun (I think) Glamour Life Holiday Celebration How can I play in 1024 again? I've been looking around for a week+ and can't find anything
Nope we need more than just a name. There are zillions of models of nVIDIA graphics. Look in the FAQs again. Question 2 is useful.
It's not the graphics card that's creating the issue (I don't believe so anyway). There was a file that I changed prior to installing the other expansions and it's worked. When I edited the graphicsrules.sgr file it allowed me to select an option that enlarged the resolution. But now, it's no longer giving me the option in game to change it. I'm assuming that I need to change another *.sgr file. To begin with I had Pets and Nightlife installed and was able to have the resolution with out changing anything. Later bought Seasons which is where I did the tweaking and it allowed me to change the resolution. Then once I installed the rest it no longer is allowing me to do so. I'm unable to get the video card information from the PC at the moment as I'm not at the same location as it is.
No we need the graphics card detail. Any advice without that would be sheer guesswork. You might also make sure that have the latest patch(es) for the game and the latest drivers for your graphics card (nVIDIA generally supplies a single driver for all its cards ... but you'll get better advice when I see that dxdiag report. Qestion 2 of the FAQs
Your driver is way out of date. I didn't know that the 6200 was offered with so much memory ... a quick search indicates that the card is likely to be an XFX one (but you'd have to look inside the case to find out unless you know one way or the other). If it is an XFX one then go to http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/showSearchDriversSerial.jspa to get the latest drivers. Failing that download the latest all in one nVIDIA driver set from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us As for changing the screen resolution ... I can't see that you will need do it if you have the latest drivers and the most recent patch. The 6200 is explicitly supported for Seasons as well as for Bon Voyage so the game should recognise the card as part of the computer configuration and should automatically set the screen resolution and other elements without need for you to tinker with the setting outside of the menu options. The advice you were following from the bbs should work as long as you followed the instructions exactly. All the same you must have the latest drivers and patches before looking for other fixes. What you have done by attempting the fix from the BBS is like sitting on the saddle before putting it on the horse. How can you expect to go anywhere if you haven't got the equipment working properly. The 2005 driver predates Seasons and therefore predates the fix described by the BBS article you quote ... by 2 years!!! Likewise the Seasons patch will either make the fix redundant (not needed) or else help it to work better ... either way: patch first then open the hood and start poking around with screwdrivers and wrenches. And never, never, EVER, hit anything with a hammer unless you have a degree in thumpology plus a license to wallop from the Licensed Thumpers Association. PPS Your dxdiag image says that your screen resolution is 1440 x 900 (widescreen) so why do you want to set to to 1024? Thay might also be the cause of your problems.
It's still not working, and I downloaded all that you said to plus the patch was already installed. I like it. You've no clue what my computer background is and as much as I appreciate the help, if it's going to be oozed with attitude, forget it. ""
