Immaturity and its effects! As you know the world in Spore will automatically fill up with creatures your world needs. Unfortunately as you may know, immaturity may destory this. There will probably be people who try to make things such as walking male genitalia >< What do you think will be done, if anything, to prevent this? I don't want my universe to be a peice of crap!
I don't think Maxis is that stupid to allow these kind of things, so if your'e lets say in the early stages, you won't have to face very strong enemies.. About those gross things, when those will be submitted, and people will complain, Maxis will look for the IP the creature was sent from, and take care of him Heat
Uh... No... If the game automatically grabs all your creatures once you connect to the internet and you can't stop it, then people could quite reasonably claim that they didn't mean for that "profane" creature to get on the server. You can't hold someone responsible for anything they created being uploaded without their own triggering action and it being redistributed without their exact knowledge by an indiscriminate machine to people who could possibly find offense to anything. Think of it this way. If someone made a cow, it was transferred to someone who happens to be Hindu's computer, and they take offense that other creatures kill the cow creature, it would be nearly impossible for them to start a successful lawsuit against Maxis or the creator of the creature. What's more likely to happen is that Maxis will pull such creatures from their servers, and you will probably have the option to block certain creatures on your own end.
There might be moderators on the officle site that pick which creatures will be put into other people's games.
I so much hope that maxis will like remember that it says bang in Will Wrights head "damn, I don't want living bubbies hoping around in this game" and then he says that to his workers and they do something really clever to prevent it.... :laughing2:
Don't you think that Maxis is smart enough to already think and find a solution for this? come on, they made the sims! Heat
in the sims,, the content made stuff didn't come in automaticly! they will here.. There's tons of ugly downloads for the sims,,,,,, and that could come automaticly into spore now I'm confusing my self!
There will be filtiring...i mentioned the sims not because of the content downloading, but because of the genius that made that game, the smart AI and the wonderful graphics...i'm sure Maxis did consider those things, and i'm sure they'll find a way to stop it from happening. Heat
The Sims were hardly smart. If you made a five story house they'd pick the bed/toilet/grill farthest from their current position ninety percent of the time even in there was one in the next room over. Or how about when they put the baby back in its crib when the house is on fire? Or any of the fifty million other stupid little things they did while everyone else was praising the AI for being so advanced just because they had needs and fears. At the current level of technology we as a global culture have, it would be incredibly difficult to make an automatic filter that removes all inappropriate content. And if one was created, it would probably remove perfectly fine creatures as well because, this may come as a shock, phallic imagery is only phallic because we already have an obsession with sex. Lollipops and swords would still look that way whether evolution had created the current reproductive organs or not. Now, I don't want to see planets inhabited by creatures intentionally made to be offensive, so here's my two cents for a filter. Those who sign up to Spore and are over eighteen could recieve content the minute it was uploaded. They would review it, and after it recieves enough positive votes it would be released to those who sign up as under the age of eighteen. A perfect system, as you would have to have over twenty accounts to have any chance of balancing the votes in your favor, which means twenty CDs, or in the ball park of a thousand dollars in monetary terms.
yea, kill the party. we were makin good ideas!or they were! we clouda told them the ideas amd it woulda happend! part killer!! im j/k dont kill me We won'tl, just please don't use too much capitals .Heat
It sounds like a good idea but kids are going to think that if they lie about their age then they will have more game play and less ristktions. I mean i lied about my age to go look at the reviews of prince of persia 2. i mean im not saying that its not a good idea its just that kids will think that they will be treated like kids if they don't lie about there age. And if you see what im talkin about please comment on this. And im not going to lie to you i am 13 and more mature than my friends and i do not wish to ruin anyones game play experience. :indifferent:
Eh,you're right. I suppose that maybe we could just put an option there to test the races before they're realeased to the general public...
That would be good, that way all of the crap stuff like immature creatures, or thousands of TV creature recreations will be kept out of every one else's game. If you want that stuff, keep it in your own copy of Spore instead of spreading it everywhere else.
They might have to just can the whole 'automatic' idea, and opt for a more traditional online 'shopping center' where you go thru an online catalogue and get whichever species/buildings/whatever you want manually. I hope that's not the case though because I really liked the idea where the game watches what you create and dynamically populates your game with similar stuff, in case you need it. Actually... if the game can search for buildings based on the shape and style the player is using, couldn't Maxis also put in templates of nasty things as well?
I was thinking the species that go onto your computer would be made to fit your enviroment and balance it out. Not that you have a planet full of vegetarians and you are the only carnivore or so. I dunno how they'd do it, which factors would be important in such a filtering, but I'd like it rather than random inserting.
Well Will Wright was explaining in the video how he could create or place down a few buildings and the game would be able to 'look' at the models he was using to find other, similar structures. If the game can do that, then it's only a small step from simply giving the game a template of models of everything that is to be watched for, and then the game can examine any of the incoming or outgoing models and block them accordingly. Since this is -slightly- risky, since what the Spore game might see as a penis is really just a tall creature with an oddly shaped head, a way around that problem would be to merely block questionable creatures from being put into the online database. That way if someone wants to make walking genitalia they can, and anyone who has innocent intentions can do the same, their creatures just won't be included in the database. Sure we'd miss out on a few creatures, but the majority would make it through and it would also keep bad ones out.
