If your goin for a new computer.. I would suggest, if you have technical experience of any kind, to probably build your own.

But if not.. and you choose to go to a pre-fab company like Dell or IBM, be sure you know what you need in the system. As.. some computers (Like my Dell) can be fairly cheap ($900) but.. can be pretty crappy after only a few years.

Most computers become "crappy" after only a few years, even if you do build them yourself. The thing about buying from companies like Dell and such, is that you have to buy ANOTHER copy of XP (as we all have originals, right?! ;) ), and you also get a whole lot of useless programs that you would probably never use.

My advice is that, if you don't know how to assemble a computer yourself, either enrol in a course which teaches you how, or; Go down to your local computer store (not a big brand company like Harvey Normans, here in Australia), one that only sells computer parts, and ask them to assemble it for you. It usually only costs about AU$50-AU$100, and they will also install your operating system, and 'burn-in' your new setup. ie, They will test it for 24 hours to see if anything is wrong with it!

You will find that if you do a little research and shop around first, buying at a small computer store will usually save you around AU$400, and that is after you have had it assembled and tested!

Anyone reading this in Australia, I reccommend MSY: http://www.msy.com.au

Not necesarily.. If you build a good computer, using near top specs of the time.. It can last you a good long time.

Plus, if its built right, and isnt pre-fab CRAP.. you won't have all that extra bundled trash that comes with it.

Also, if you build it yourself, you will have expertise on your specific system and will be able to troubleshoot problems easier.. There are still aspects of this POC that I don't fully know, so its a pain to go in there and fix stuff.. Not to mention I have the big band cables in there, yeah.. I'm building my next computer.

Actually, i dont know how to build a comp, not really in the mood to learn, but im also not going for a big company either, i know a gaming spot around half an hour fomr here, the pay to play type spots, the the owner said he can build a comp for aorund 2k, thats with the monitor of course, so prob around 1300-1400, and the comps can play msot to any game on them flawlessly, that includes WoW at the 100x800ish resolution and max graphic options, and can also play oblivion good to, so im going with that.
