    Levels and links

When I first saw the GDC demo it looked really good how the game was all linked together and didn't really have any levels just one big game.

When I saw the recent E3 demo, I saw that they now have levels and I wondered how that would work... I don't suppose anyone knows but unless anyone does, will it be like once you have evolved enough in the cell level, you will be able to move to creature, then tribe and so on. I guessed that at first but then wondered what would happen if you went back to cell because you would modify the whole gentic tree.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I doubt that you could go back to a lower level. Maybe with a save game you could go back and do things differently but not ingame.

Looking at some of the demos; the more recent where it shows a menu of sorts for each 'level' or stage of evolution; I would assume that they are to start again, but at that certain level.

ie. Once you have completed the cell and creature levels and moved onto the tribal section, you could then go back and start again to create an entirely new spore or a new creature straight up because you have 'passed' that stage of the game.

Ah, I'll try that again...

Basically, I think this menu would allow you to go directly into a certain stage of evolution, without starting from scratch. ie, Jump right into the Civ Game...

    ... Yes, that's a better description.

If you look at the E3 display.. they had that big menu that had all the levels across the top of the SPORE logo, and all of the editors across the bottom.

The way I see it, is that when you start a fresh game, all of those are greyed out except for the cellular level and the cellular editor. Then as you progres ahead with any one species, say.. you move from cellular to creature, then the creature level and editors become unlocked. And so on up to space. So when you have had a creature reach space, you then have all the levels and editors unlocked.. And thus you can go back and play at any level you wish. You would probably have to create a creature at that level, or maybe you select from a list of already made creatures.. maybe the equivalent of the TS2 character bin.
