    Food

Im wondering how the feeding process goes. Will herbivores be able to wipe out a whole plant species from the planet. And will the are able to eat every kind of tree/plant or do you have to be specialised in particular species. IF you can eat all plants, herbivores and omnivores could have a very easy life.

Do you need food only for DNA points or also for survival: I've got a animal specie that sin't able to get his food, will it die after a while?

herbavores might only eat a certain kind of plant, like giant pandas and bamboo chutes, but after a creature from your group of 'species' eats a plant, it will soon grow back. Maybe when you make your plants you can throw some poison in there so it can thrive and no herbavore can eat it, just guessing.

I'm sure food is necessary for survival, depending on your creature. If your creature is big, it will eat more food, small, less food. Or if your creature is like a snake, then very little food at all. The feeding process might be an automatic feature, which hopefully it is, even better if it was like a 'free-will'

I think the kinds of flora you can eat might be affected by your kind of mouth, the way being a herbivore is created by your kind of mouth. A cows jaw will make you eat grass, while a monkeys will make you like fruit?

haha! wonderful! Indeed, when Robin Williams was playing and choose a grapling-type mouth Mr. Wright said that a round mouth was better. Although, that might have been to mkae the creature more... pretty? However, your line of thinking is not only logical, but perhaps slightly confirmed. Oh boy, I am giddy for this game already.

Although I may be wrong, personally, I feel I am 100% correct when I say food will be needed. There's a thread somewhere else about the buttons at the bottom of the screen. One seems to be a chicked leg with a bite taken out of it and a meter next to it. I would assume this is a hunger satisfaction meter (similar to The Sims) or something along those lines.

Also, I don't mean to put you down or anything Snabbelkrab, but I'm pretty sure that an animal without a way to eat/get food would be impossible to create.

Wouldn't it be possible to create just that lump of clay? But I don't see why anyone would want to do that. And it might be impossible. It might be essential to have a mouth and senses.

I'm pretty sure that you will have to have someway of consuming a food source, no matter wether it's plant or other creature based. You will probably have to have a mouth of some description, and yes, this probably will limit you on the types and amounts of food you can eat.

Although, something that just 'absorbs' it's food by sitting on it (kind of like a snail... or a gelatinous cube! ;) ) would also be cool.

Bottom line is that 'food' IS essential to survival in this game.

Actually, if you listen closely, he says Brown parts, not round parts. The brown parts actually worked, where the white parts were unfinished parts and caused problems.

Sorry, didn't mean to make you sad. Just wanted to correct what was said. :)

I searched for the button you mentioned and it seems pretty clear to me that this indeed measures your hungry feeling. This, in combination with an creature that isn't able to feed would automatically lead to the death and extinction of this creature. But it would be interesting though if you could create such a monstrosity.

That it would. But even if a creature was made that didn't have a mouth or something, it would probably just absorb food somehow, like Martun suggested.
