    Is the game endless...?

When I first heard about Spore, they pretty much said it's an endless game...but now they have introduced these "stages" I'm not so sure...?

What if you finish the last stage, will it just be roaming around doing nothing...? lol I'm confused...

PS. This is my first post here so please don't shout at me if this question has already been answered...

Yes, the game is endless. The stages can best be thought of as tutorials for how to play the meta-game; the space stage. You begin as a single-celled-organism and have limitations as to what you can do. No nuclear bombs, yet. As you progess you will develop multiple cells, appendages, sentience, community, and technology. If you wish to remain at a stage for more than the needed amount of time you will be able to, simply do not invest in the new technology to provide you the new stage, but there will be little reason to do so. The space stage will be a compilation and extrapolation of the stages beneath it, and will have little point but to have fun - You'll be doing stuff, but it won't be structured. Some random twists will be added, some missions if you like, but for the most part it will be open-ended roaming. Is this what you wanted to hear? Or, did I miss something. And, for the most part, we don't bite or yell, I'm personally a bit scared of Firemaker though...

    Hey, thanks for replying.

Yeah that is exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks!!

This game looks awesome and can't wait for it to be released, even though it's been delayed to 2008... :(

Good topic really. I came across a picture from some Maxis meeting where in the background you can see different phases likened to old classic games. The space phase was paired with MOO - Master of Orion. My favorite game of all time! *joy* That game was open ended, yet any player could fashion their own idea of an "end". Most of the time my games never ended. I would corral the other species and play zookeeper until I got bored. Then Galciv came around and changed my play style. It was nearly impossible to play my zookeeper style, but the effort to dominate the galaxy and reach the official ending grew on me. Both have pros and cons. Spore is probably going to be more like MOO - no official ending.
