Vista Problems? I just recently got a new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium. I installed The Sims 2, and it worked just fine. After I downloaded some items and lots off of The Sims 2 website, I attempted to play but it would not work anymore. The game would stop at the point where it is loading the neighborhood. Is this because some of the things I downloaded are not compatible with Vista? Please help.
Well it's not a matter of compatibility, that's for sure. Lots imported from the exchange are well known for containing unwanted hacks. You should always check them before you download to see what custom content they contain. My advice is never to download unless the item carries NO custom content. Have you tried removing your downloads folder? It's in: [USER] >> Documents >> EA Games >> The Sims 2 Come to think of it ... you didn't put stuff in the Programs folder, did you?
I put the downloads in the download folder. I just deleted it, and I didn't download anything else. The SIms 2 still won't work. Should I uninstall it and try again?
Well a complete reinstall is a chore, but it'll be the better way to fix the problem in the long run. In future only don't download lots from the official exchange because, frankly, it is an open sewer of contaminated dreck. We maintain a much more reliable source of information about a safer and/or better downloads than are to be found on the exchange.
Just on a side note (since it wasn't mentioned here) When I installed Sims 2 on a Vista rig, I was sent to EA to download an update patch b/c Sims 2 was incompatible with vista (at least that's what M$ claimed Download Stuff (for Sims) can't be incompatible to Vista....it's not even touched by the OS. It either shows in your game or it doesn't (like when I d/l cars without having NL installed), so I highly doubt that we have a CC/hack problem here. Check the official EA Site for VISTA and go from there. -le
