My iMac hates certain file types :(

Hey guys, problems with my iMac once again.
As with many of you, I like custom content. The content that comes with the game isn't too great, so why not download better stuff, right?
Well, I tried that, and it seems my computer only likes .Sims2Packs
This is really inconvenient, because a lot of people put their files in .package file types or .rars, which I can't use either.

Any suggestions for something I could download to use these file types? Oh, and, how the hell does one install things once their in My Downloads? If I double-click it always asks me to choose a program to open stuff with.

I'm new to the world of Macs. Help? xD

Here are two passages that should help...They were written by some other, helpful Mac users on this site, though I can't remember who, and I copied them. One of these tips should surely work for you. They worked for me!

I have no idea about iMac but if you put "MAC +rar" in google you should be slammed with like 20 RAR-Extractors for Mac computers. (some freeware, some shareware.
If there is a diffence in OS between Mac and iMac just try "iMac +rar"
