    can't even run installer

That's it. I cant install the game because i cant run the ea installer, the autorun, etc. There's no message error, no installation screen, nothing. This is not just a sims 2 problem, i also cant install the lord of the rings battle for middle earth (which has ea installer).
although i DID got it working by booting into safe mode, i just wanted to know the reason why it doesnt work in normal mode. I've googled a lot about this and couldnt find anything on the subject. Also asked ea but got no answer. I think this seemingly stupid problem could be an indication of a bigger problem. Could someone help me out?
specs: xp pro sp2, amd athlon X2 5200+, gf8800 with latest drivers, 3gb ram kingston, HD 160 gb.

I'm not accusing you of anything, but is the game a legimate copy?

If it is, then technically you should be able to browse to the autorun.exe (or setup.exe, sims.exe - whatever they called it) and double-click it to start the installation process.

I tried both legitamate and illegitimate versions of the game and this also happens with other ea games. The thing is that nothing happens when I double click the autorun.exe, setup.exe, etc.

No, it doesn't work either when I open with right click. And it's not because there are too many processes. This is a bit weird.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

Well, I think I know where the problem is. When I was trying to install it, instead of booting into safe mode, I missed and selected "safe mode with networking", tried to install it and I couldn't. I reckon the only thing that changes between both is that it loads the network adapter drivers. My network adapter is Nvidia nForce Networking Controller and I've had trouble getting proper drivers when I installed windows vista once.
So I think somehow the drivers interfeer with ea installers.
