High, Claudiolo. I have the same graphics card but I don't have any shadow problems.

Is your graphics card AGP or PCIe.

Is your main processor an Intel or AMD?

    Vista or XP?

In that case I can only suggest the shadow problem may be a minor effect of slight hardware incompatibility. As such it may not be fixable. There are many references to poor graphics performance associated with the ati graphics chipsets but these, I suspect are often the result of ati cards being used in Intel systems. My own processor is an AMD, and although the motherboard chipset is nVIDIA I chose to install the ati x1950. So far no problems ... although I am unable to record video with the edge-smoothing set anywhere above none. It's a minor problem that I accept in exchange for the extreme savings. The ati 1950/512MB is half the price of the GeForce 8800/512MB, but (with very minor failings) the cheaper card is as good a performer as its overpriced competition. This is just my own humble opinion.

Meanwhile you should keep checking to see if newer drivers are released.

On a slightly different side note ... the large painting looks better without a shadow (again, just my personal opinion) because the creator of that custom object didn't bother to edit the original shadow of the Maxis object from which it was cloned (look close at the picture of the painting with a shadow ... it stops halfway down the side! That would annoy me more than not having the shadow at all!). I bet it probably still has the original Maxis catalog description too.

(I never get tired of poking lazy custom content makers for not finishing the job properly ... ;) )

If you are using an ATI card, download the Cataylst program they offer with their drivers. Play around with the settings in that, I cannot remember off the top of my head but there might be an option in there that you can set under the 3D display part of the Cataylst program.

Thanks for that, jud! I'd give you some more rep, but I'm not allowed.

I'm still very new to the ATI fraternity, but the sheer cheapness of the 1950 enabled me to replace my mobo/cpu. So far I have been delighted with my choice, which has been utterly trouble-free.

I'm just mad at myself...Back when Pentium 4's were hot I built the top of the line computer with 3.2GHz processor, 2 gigs ram and the Radeon X800 Pro graphics card....$399 just for the dang video card!!! I can't believe how stupid I was back then. Now it's nothing. Pretty soon I will have to build another new computer...

Not to mention I've got to update to HDTV's and now supposedly Blue-Ray as the DVD format will be replaced in the future.... I need to win the lottery! LOL

Yeah, I have been a model of restraint in budget terms, only ever buying technology that is at least 12-18 months old. If you apply Moore's Law judiciously you can buy the "latest" fastest/hottest/biggest for a fraction of the cost of the stuff that is getting the front-cover/above the fold reviews in all the techno-geek press. It does seem totally crazy to pay $400/280 for single component when the next best thing costs little more than a third that.

Sweetheart, we do not think it is a software compatibility issue. Please try Judhudson's suggestion regarding the ati Catalyst utility. Beyond that, we sometimes have to accept that some problems are unfixable.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to spend more than 30/$50 on an AGP graphics card, because an AGP motherboard is already groaningly outdated. You have upgraded your computer to, probably, the best level you are likely to achieve. Any shortcomings in performance you must learn to live with. :(

I already use the catalyst driver, and i already set the 3D display part of the program, but the compatibility mode at the moment is the best solution that i found. Half problem is resolved.

I quote you for the AGP card!!
