    Problem with AppData and Roaming

    Hi all,

When I click the sims 2 freetime logo on my desktop, it loads the launcher as planned. Unfortunatly, when I click on "Play" it doesn't get any further, I only get this screen... (see attachment).

When go on another profile on my computer, I get the dancing sims.... but it never loads past "free time" splash screen. The bar doesn't move an inch.

Tried bypassing the launcher, reinstalling ALL the games in order, used RegFix.. what else?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks :)

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

If you could attach your dxdiag info it would help us immensely.
    Is this a Vista system?
I'm not sure with Vista but with windows xp you click the start button and right above it is the option "run".
Click it and in the box type in dxdiag, click ok.
Copy and paste your general info and display info in your next post.
What was the last thing you did in the game before this started?
Installed any mods, stuff packs or expansion packs by chance or is this a first time for the game with you.
You might also note what expansions/stuff packs you have.

I was saving the game (before I reinstalled it) and it crashed... It has never been the same since :(

I have all the Eps, with Celebration, Teenstyle and Glam. Got rid of all Custom Content.

I'm on Vista, but I don't use the launcher. I'm even more glad I don't use it now I know that it seemingly goes around the house by running in and out of AppData.

I know you said that you did, but have you actually tried running the game direct from:

Program Files >> EA Games >> The Sims 2 Freetime >> TS Bin >> TheSims2EP7.exe

See the Help Us To Help You post in the FAQ's and give us those dxdiag details.

    ETA Woah!!!

Less than 1GB of RAM!!! Vista force a minumum requirement of a GB. You really need 2GB to get any real joy.
Now, I'll see if that card is fully supported ....

Its weird, because it HAS all worked perfectly before. A little slow, obviously, but still workable..

    :(

Why is roaming getting in the way now?? Mad eh.

Oh yeah. Tried that several times... argh.

I have absoluetly nothing to do with the sims 2 in mine.

That's why I mentioned it ... well you did (in the thread title) ... because I have nothing, Sims related, in my AppData folders.

I wouldn't worry. It's probably a Windows thing ... maybe there's a temporary entry put in AppData when an error occurs ...?

I feel the issue is memory related.

Try removing your Sims 2 folder from Documents\EA Games\ ... put it on the desktop.

The game will try to remake a new one when starting. That will eliminate the possibility of damaged user files causing a start failure ... except that it's not a likely problem as the game is not even getting to the splash screen.

Have you virus scanned (with up to date virus definitions)?

Have you recently made any changes to the computer (new memory or other bits and pieces) or new software, programs, utilities etc. or even reinstalled Windows?

Moved folder. Just that .... Calculating time remaining.

    Done Virus scanner.

Also have all driver up to date.

    Neither have I updated vista.

    Bloody hell this is frustrating.
