University woes Driving home from work last night I thought up a new beginning for my Sims. For the past few months, I have been playing with the same cast of characters. These are all Sims I have downloaded and tweaked to suit me. Some games they might be brother and sister combinations, single Sims, or more recently, married to one partner or the other. I have become very fond of them. I have an uneven mix three boys all knowledge/romance combinations, three knowledge/family girls and two flirty romance/family girls who always throw a spanner into the happy lives of my married couples. Anyway this time I decided that I would start them off as young adults and put them through college together. It would be fun, I reasoned, to watch them get to know each other and pick their future partner and who knew what chaos my romance girls could cause amongst the preppy, conservative knowledge Sims. So a visit to Body Shop and I had all eight converted to younger versions of themselves. Just to make it more interesting I familyfunded enough cash for them to live in a house. It was one I had installed - a big enough one for all eight people. I filled it with furniture and skilling stuff and then filled it with the young versions of Jolene and company. I was up to this challenge I thought. My daughter plays games where her poor Sims start off in a cow paddock with only a bed. I can surely manage eight Sims in a house. Screech! It was revolting. For a start I had miscounted the beds. How does one not manage to count up to eight I don't know but I managed it. Then there weren't enough bathrooms. The house had three but that wasn't enough. You know what Sims are. One would go to take a shower and another would decide to use the toilet in the same bathroom (although the other two bathrooms might be vacant) and would shoo the showering Sim out. So I had all these Sims that were half washed and usually busting for the loo. They were all hungry too because 'serve' seems to only give you six serves of food and not eight plus the food was not filling enough. I sent them all to a community lot to fish so at least the fish would satisfy their hunger. But a really horrible thing happened. For some reason, maybe because I had eight people on the one lot, the game would not tell me when their classes were on. You know how you get a warning and you can send the Sim off and running? That was not happening. I had to go into each and every Sim and try to keep track of their classes. Inevitably I missed some. Just to be sure there wasnt something evil lurking in my downloads folder I left my lot and experimented with one of the maxis Greek houses with four people. The classes alert message worked fine there. So I had all these smelly, tired, hungry Sims who were missing classes and final exams and running off to throw the football when I wanted them to skill or sleep. At one time I had set one to skill and got so busy I forgot about her. She was almost dead when I finally got back to her. Knowledge Sims can be so stupid. I then made the mistake of getting them to flirt and suddenly I had all of the above but now the place was filled with wolf whistles instead of study. I no longer cared about them meeting their future partner. I hated them all. Grrr. Gave up. Deleted hood. I think I might try it again only this time I will introduce them a few at a time. Maybe start a couple off and then slowly add the others. Im guessing the game will let me do that. I will put them in a dorm this time though because then I wont have to cook the food and manage the bathroom thing so carefully. That will be tonights challenge.
Sounds like a good idea. Are you supposed to get the class notifications when you have a sim living in a private house? I would think so but I've always used either the dorms or the frat/soroity houses. If you don't get those notifications I would probably never be able to keep students off probation. LOL Ruth
HI Ruthie I think it was a glitch with my game. I have played a private house before, though only with four students, and the notifications happened as they should. PS. I started again with the same students and sent them to a dorm. They graduated, got married, and now I am just about to send their oldest children to college. This is my danger time when I usually give up and start again. I hate University so much. It's so boring. I can't even rely on romances this time to liven it up as I only have one boy and six girls and I don't like any of the dormies. Perhaps should rename my boy 'Lucky'.
