in dire need of help....Sims2 + brand new iMac

i have done everything under the moon to try to get the sims to work and i'm still completely out of luck. I just bought 4 new expansion packs and a brand new computer just so i can play the sims but i have spent the last 3 nights trying to install them! I'm desperate at this point.

First off here is all the requirements and technical info:

I just got the brand new 24" iMac on Monday

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
    SMC Version: 1.30f1
    Serial Number: W88132A40N4

System requirements for the Sims2 mac are:

    Installation Requirements
Minimum MAC Processor Supported PowerPC G4
    Minimum MAC CPU Speed 1.2GHz
    Macintosh Universal Yes
    Minimum MAC RAM Required 256MB
Minimum MAC HD Space Required 3 GB
Additional Processor Information PowerPC G4/G5, 1.2GHz
    Optical Drive Type Required DVD
Software Compatibility Mac OS X 10.3.8
    Display method
Required Video Card (ATI:( Radeon 9000 or better
(NVidia:( GeForce FX5200 or later video card
    Minimum Display Resolution Required 1024 x 768
    Minimum VRAM Required 32MB
    Sound Card Required Yes

I have 445GB available on my hard drive.

Now...shouldn't my Mac far exceed these requirements???

I get the notice pop up at the beginning that says The Sims 2 recomends a Power PC processor running at 500MHz or faster your computer does not meet the requirements.

ummm My processor is 3.06 GHz? 500MHz/3.06GHz? Shouldn't that be more than enough?

anyway the game installs and loads up then it gets stuck on the screen where you chose the neighborhood. I've tried all neighborhoods and none work. The music still goes and i can still move the arrow around but nothing happens.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the game about 5 times trying new things.

I completely whiped the computer clean and reinstalled the OS twice last night then re-installed all the games again.

I have downloaded and installed the combo patch for all the expansion packs

Lastnight the Sims2 original disk worked fine by itself....now i can't even get into the first disk.

I'm not running any other applications. Sims2 is the ONLY thing I have on this computer?

I am at my wits end at this point. I just spent so much money on the expansion packs and i have spent the first 3 days with my brand new computer trying to install the sims I don't want to make it 4.

I have been reading everything that comes up in google and trying everything i possibly can or that was recommended to other people and i'm still having no luck. Nothing is working.

I tried calling EA tonight and their hours are only 8-5 m-f (when i'm working) what am i supposed to call in sick to get help with their products? Don't most people play games AFTER work on the weekends???? So stupid!!! So then i go to their website to read the FAQ and sure enough they had my question but then the answer was for PC.....not a mac. They had no FAQ for anything about Sims 2 and a Mac. So then I try to send support an email and their form was all messed up, under mac it only listed 5 games...none of them being the sims2. so then decide i'll register then tomorrow morning i will go late to work and call them??? So I go to register my game on their site and it made me log in and the field where you put your name only took 5 characters so there was no way my email address would even fit to even be able to login so that i can register my product??? My experience on their web site was the worst experience i've ever had on a site. Their interface was horrible. It was so frusterating. And all these issues with the Sims is ridiculously out of hand. They need to do better QA on the games!?!?

But all in all...the Sims 2 is by far my favorite video game ever made. all i really want to do is play it and i can't, instead i've spent about 35 hours just trying to get the game to even work. ;)

if you can help me, i will bake you cookies.
