Game Crashing! All info provided. Please help! Hello, My game loads fine, and I can go into a neighborhood without a problem. But when I go into 'create a family', and click on 'add a member', my game immediately crashes! I have been playing for a year or so and have never had a problem. But earlier today I tried to delete a piece of clothing that was included in the original Sims2, which caused my game to freeze. Then I restarted the computer, and when I opened Sims2 again it started crashing. I also have a lot of custom content, but that has never been a problem. I also tried reinstalling Pets (I have OFB, Pets, and H&M) but that didn't do anything either. My Computer Info: Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz (2 CPUs) System Memory:3328MB RAM Windows Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Free Hard Disk Space: 170 GB Total Hard Disk Space: 298 GB DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Display Adapter:NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT Display Driver Name & Version Number: nv4_disp.dll, version 6.14.0010.9147, date 8.11.2006 Appx. Total Video Memory:256.0 MB Game Detail: Sims2, OFB, Pets, H&M Problem: See above! ANY help you have to offer would be great. I would really rather NOT have to reinstall all my games, because that is the only thing that I could think of doing. Thank you so much!
There's something weird about what you're saying... You can't delete clothes that come with the original game, so you must have been trying to delete custom made clothing. I honestly don't know what's up with your game. It could be a bad download (the one you were trying to delete, perhaps?). The game doesn't like it if you have too many downloads, so maybe thinking about cutting down on them isn't such a bad idea. I'm not asking you to delete all your downloads -- as I'm a download junkie too, I know how much downloads can mean. But why not delete the ones you haven't used in a while? Also, make sure that you haven't got any other programs running (like msn for example) while you're trying to start the game.
Thanks! So you know how on the game, you can select custom content and delete it, while you are playing? Well, when I selected a piece of clothing that came with the original game, the little delete button popped up. It was kind of ugly (no offense Maxis) and I wasn't really thinking it would do anything, so I tryed to delete it. This froze my game, so I manually restarted my computer and then restarted the game. Also, do you think that any firewall or other security applications could do anything? We have three different programs on the computer I use to protect us against bugs and viruses, and all that other stuff.
Alright, I was looking at some other threads where people's games had crashed, and some people did a system restore. I haven't done anything important with this computer lately, so do you think that would work?
system restore won't affect stuff like in your documents. The security programs shouldn't but normally when i play I turn all those kids of programs off and disconnect from the internet before i play the game. it frees up a lot of system resources helping the game run faster. You might try downloading the Sims2 Clean Pack Installer from Mod The Sims 2 and have it scan your downloads folder for anything like duplicate files or whatever. You will need to download Netframework 1.1 or above from Microsoft for the program to work.
Alright, well, I just reinstalled my games. Oh well. I hadn't played in a long time, so I wasn't too bummed about losing my info.
